Neiman Marcus. A Macy's flagship store. A multi-story Tiffany's. Cable cars. The Westin St. Francisco hotel. Dozens of shops, art galleries, and boutiques. This is the heart of San Francisco, and the shopping center of the city. The square itself hosts festivals and special events during the day throughout the year, and the downtown district lights up at night, with theatres, nightclubs, and restaurants hopping in every direction for several blocks. Snap a photo of the Roman goddess Victory rising high into the air, a memorial for Admiral George Dewey's win at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish American War.Recommended for:Luxury Travelers

Uniion Square is a world class destination! It is a Square in the center of downtown, that is surrounded by some of the best shops, hotels, and restaurants San Francisco has to offer... St Francis Hotel, Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany's. It is an architectural phenomenon with centers leading up in a cascading order people use to sit, people watch, relax, and simply enjoy life! There is a wonderful cosmopolitan cafe and pastry shop at the top Empoio Rolli, and it is excellent! There is also a booth to buy half price tickets for a grand performance that night, there are many theaters in San Francisco. There is the Beautiful Dewey Monument, also known as the Naval Monument, dedicated by Roosevelt. Many days will have art exhibitions, in the winter the center of Union Square turns into an ice skating rink. The SF cable cars go right by Union Square, so it is a great travel point and meeting place. Whatever brings you to Union Square you are sure to appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of this destination!

If you're there to sight see in San Francisco, you kind of have to make a trip out to Union Square. It's one of those you probably should put on your SF "To Do" list. Even if you're not a big shopper, it's pretty central and easy to get to. If you are there to take advantage of all the stores in the area, just make sure you're not there when the aforementioned tourists are there as it can get pretty crowded. Go there to shop; don't go there to eat.

My favorite place to sit back and people watch. Union Square is the place to be if you are looking for high fashion shopping and dining. During the winter they bring out the ice rink.

Union square has a lot to offer! In winter, they have an ice rink for you to skate around. In the summer, they have live bands playing. All year round, it's a great place to shop, relax, and people watch.
