Huge green space, with a wide variety of trails to hike. It is great from spring to fall. During the spring the flowering trees are beautiful. In the summer all of the shaded areas are great for having a nice summer picnic. In the fall with all of the leaves turning color it is magical. It isn't the easiest place to get to, but it is definitely worth a visit for those who enjoy hiking and the outdoorsRecommended for:Outdoor Enthusiasts

If you've ever found yourself shouting for the kids to "go outside and run around" on a particularly rambunctious afternoon, the Arboretum is a welcome respite.
The National Arboretum sports a collection of beautifully manicured gardens that will delight adults, and plenty of open spaces for the little ones to enjoy. Of particular note is a set of pillars that are mesmerizing upon first glance.
Best of all, it's free! The kids will enjoy feeding the fish in the coy pond and there's plenty of parking to boot. A little nature never hurt anyone, and this is a great place to get your fix.

The Arboretum is beautiful, however, it's pretty much inaccessible without a car. If you're an environmentalist or a plant lover, it may be worth the trip. If not, save your time for attractions closer to downtown.

Lovely walking routes through the park. A little hard to get to if youre a tourist. It's also a little on the rough side of town. You pretty much absolutely need a car of your own to get there. There's a lovely hill within the park that worth a walk up with lovely unique views over the city that you can't find anywhere else. My top tip is the Bonsai tree exhibition with huge old trees- some of them several hundred years old. Well laid out and naturally lit exhibit. A nice free trip out with nice places to stretch your legs away from the fumes of the city.

The National Arboretum is kind of out of the way - quite difficult to reach without a car. But if you can get there, it's a really nice place to walk around. Try to go in spring or summer when things are blooming!
