I've spent most of my life here and though there have been ups and downs America is a beautiful place full of beautiful people. As for traveling here there is still so much more that I have to explore, the country is so massive there is always more to see! The US has always been a popular choice for backpackers both native and foreign and now with the US dollar lower in value compared to Euro, Aussie and Canadian currency it's a great time to trek the US. For all the finger pointing at America for being wasteful consumerists Americans are coming up with some of the most innovative eco-friendly solutions. The US has an incredibly diverse and fascinating history!Recommended for:

Like China and India, the USA is a vast and diverse country,. That truism applies whether you're talking about the landscape or the people, or both. It's like a choose-your-own-adventure book come to life: climb glaciers in Alaska, surf off white-sand beaches in Hawaii, hug the world's biggest trees in California, walk the skyscraper-shadowed streets of NYC...the list goes on and on.Recommended for:

The richest and most powerful nation on Earth, and its third largest in both size and population, the United States is, simply put, massive. With a geographic diversity that rivals any on the globe, it's got something for everyone. You want mountains? Beaches? Desert? Deciduous and coniferous forests? Skiing? Hiking? Bayou or rural or major cosmopolitan city? It's all here. With a culture that, whatever its flaws (our perverse, ignorant, aggressive, and money-driven form of politics being chief among them), evinces wonderful qualities of openness, optimism, and genuine good-will, the people of the USA are, on a whole, some of the nicest on the planet, and quick to offer hospitality, even if that hospitality may consist in part of gigantic helpings of fried food. You can go for the cities and the food, or go for the experience of a wild natural beauty as incredible and varied as anywhere on earth, but do yourself a favor and GO. America is much, much more than idiot politicians and the soundbites they represent us as.

United States is one of the favourite countries I've ever visited. The diversity in this country amazes me. People can be whoever they want. Also the diversity of cultures are great as well. East coast and West coast are very different, and also the south and the north as well. It's big, it's diverse, I can't wait to spend more time here.

Even though I haven't lived in the States for years, I now love it for all the reasons I used to hate it. For example, back in my reckless years, I refused to pay parking/traffic tickets (my way of sticking it to the Man). As a result, I spent a few nights in jail, paying 'em off with time when I'd get caught. Having lived abroad now for a few years, I can appreciate the order that comes with consequences. I love looking a street in USA and seeing all the cars parked in the same direction. I love how every line on the road, ever color means something and everyone knows what they mean and follows them. There is beauty and comfort in this.

I adore the USA. I'm always looking forward to go back. I love them because they cover such a wide area, including so much different lanscapes, cities and people. I've been quite often and every time I try to add to my trip new destinations. I like the sense of freedom I feel there.

The United States is big and even that's a big understatement. It's full of people, full of contradictions, full of everything you could ever want or ever imagine. It's full of hope and full of dispair, it teems with greed but donates more money to charitable causes than any other nation. It's able to be so incredibly amazing and so infuriating at the exact same time. Only when a person decides not to judge this massive young teenager and free it from the preconceived notions of the media, can you truly begin to travel it.
The Best Way to "Get It"
Don't try to see it all, unless you plan to travel around, by car, for months and maybe years. The USA has mountains and oceans with deserts, praries, and trees as big as giants, every which way.
Road trip. It's those little towns and cultural interactions along the way that help this country shine. Understand why it's a car nation.
Be open minded. There's a lot of shit to see, good, bad, ugly, and absolutely ridiculous.
There are insanely well kept national parks scattered throughout the country. Get a national parks interagency pass and stop in as many as you can. Ask a ranger, you'll see their eyes sparkle when they enthusiastically answer your questions.
And, please, don't say American's are idiots, it hurts our feelings, and there are plenty of us who are very intelligent with big hearts. We're trying.

The USA a diverse, complicated, and wonderful place to explore. Traveling from the east coast to the west, can feel like going backwards and forwards in time. The USA truly represents diversity in landscape, in culture, in ideas and beliefs. A classic road trip is the best way to see this country. Rent a car, find route 66, and maybe even check out Jack Kerouac's On the Road.
