Universal City contains a theme park, film studios with attendant tours, a shopping mall (City Walk), cinemas, a concert site and a hotel and office complex. Nothwithstanding these enticements, I find it a less than enticing place to visit.
A theme park visitor can get greater variety and better monetary value by visiting Disneyland or Knott's Berry Farm. More informative, more intimate and less expensive studio tours are available from almost any of the other studios located in the Los Angeles area. I have a general aversion to shopping malls, regardless of their name, so I am not the right person to comment on Universal City's "City Walk" (although I don't know of many other Los Angeles malls where one has to pay to park in order to shop). Universal's cinema complex is fine, assuming you like the movies that are playing. Its concert venue, the Gibson Amphiteatre, is also acceptable. They often have top tier performers.

Universal City is an entertaining place for movie lovers and families. It is a combination of a theme park and movie studio. It's one of the oldest movie studios still in use today. I went here with my family several years ago and had fun on the rides.
