USC has one of the most extensive university community service programs in the United States. This was one of the reasons the editors of Time Magazine and the Princeton Review named it "College of the Year 2000." It is the oldest private university west of the Mississippi, founded in 1880 by a Methodist horticulturist, an Irish Catholic pharmacist and a German Jewish banker. It is the largest private employer in Los Angeles and one of the largest in California. It also has more international students than any other university in the United States.
Especially known for the high quality of many of its professional schools, its diverse alumni include: Neil Armstrong, Warren Christopher, Frank Gehry, George Lucas, Pat Nixon, General Norman Schwarzkopf and John Wayne.

On a personal note:
There is no University that teachs you how to handle life I think better than USC. You come across all types of people, challenges on how to handle life, and ways to move forward and accomplish goals. The networking skills, relationship building skill, self reliance, and many more similar things last a lifetime. The ability to challenge and find new and interesting avenues to view life and are extremely important and valuable.
Having USC in the middle of Los ANgeles presents more opportunities than almost any other University in the country can offer. Add to that the outstanding academics and personality /character of the school it is beyond compare.
I can also guarantee from experience, if you wear a USC shirt or hat, etc, around the world, you will run into a stranger who will have the exact same zest for life that you do. As well as a Zeal for this extremely special University.

Summary: Beautiful Campus. Everything is Great. The only negative is maybe the area surrounding the campus isn't the greatest but there does seem to be a lot of security.
Tip - Park at PS1. PS2 might be good too but PS1 is solid. I parked at PSX and PSD for a while and it was always a pain in the ass. Hard to turn into the parking from the street first of all and then the parking is full of speedbumps and not easy to find parking. PS1 has none of these problems.

I know this place well as I grew up just down the street from the campus. Lots has changed however. New buildings and what looks like new dorms as well. I think they are expanding their radius into the community more these days but the neighborhood is still probably sketch. Still love games at the LA Coliseum though.
