One of the coolest looking museums on the mall. The architecture of the American Indian museum is very unique. The museum itself is not bad, though not great. There are some very interesting exhibits showing the history of Amerindian people and their relationships with the U.S.

This pool sits right in front of the Capitol Building. We visited at night and the Capitol looked lovely reflecting off the waters of the pool. It's a great place to sit and relax.

Again you just can not go wrong the with Smithsonian. Top notch exhibits and world class material. It's been years since I have been there and I'm sure there have been several updates since my last visit including additional interactive installations but I would venture to guess that it has only gotten better over time.

This museum has so many levels and wings, each offering something unique: ceremonial instruments, masks, textiles, paintings, sculptures, video, jewelry and more. I'm drawn to the ancient pieces but my husband enjoyed works by more contemporary artists. Something for everyone. The building and gardens are lovely, too.

You will probably stand in line and it may be in the rain or heat. The experience will be worth whatever the wait is. An amazing experience to see all the actual documents.

Art and color reclaimed this 138 year old building nestled in Southwest DC; two amazing artists painted the Exterior (HENSE - ATL) and Interior (MEGGS - AUS) of the building but there is still quite a bit to do... But it is a start in a neighborhood that could use some sprucing up. The gallery has ambitious plans. I can't ...

Always a favorite from the first time I went as a kid. If you are in DC stop by for a visit. It is one of the more impressive and interesting museums. The flight and space exhibits are fascinating and the Smithsonian has been thorough and detailed in their exhibits.

Catch the evening performance at historic Ford's Theatre, the site of Lincoln's assassination - although the theater will close during the day, the show must go on at night, even in the midst of a government crisis.

Love the Library of Congress, tours are good but there is also a lot to poke around on your home. It was cool for us because we were there on Columbus Day and because the reading room was closed to the public, we were allowed to take pictures. You cannot if there are people in the room. Beautiful building.

Dorothy's Ruby Red slippers, the original Kermit the Frog, and Archie Bunker's famous armchair from All In the Family. Those are some of my favorite sights from this incredibly enjoyable museum. For older-generation Americans, or at least those who paid attention to their parents growing up, this pop culture museum is a great stop in your itinerary.

The Newseum has so much potential, but I didn't feel like it quite has figured out how to capture that potential. The building itself is beautiful and if you want the best view/photo of you with the US Capitol behind you - go up to the Newseum balcony and you'll get your DC glamor shot.
