This is a beautiful building. Although I was somewhat bored when visiting as a child, I have since developed an appreciation, not only for what the building represents, but for the magnificence of the structure and of the vast collection of art within. Try to attend the July 4 concert on the Capital
grounds for a true patriotic experience! Be sure to get there early. It will
be worth the wait.Recommended for:Family Travelers

Something everyone should experience at least once. It's such a wonderful/magical feeling knowing that you are standing where history was made and is being made!
*old senate chambers. Make an appointment to see it!*

Any trip to DC is really highlighted by a visit to the US Capitol. Contact your state senator or congressman at least 3 months before your trip to secure tickets and a tour. A young intern will most likely provide the tour. Their enthusiasm is infectious!

If you can schedule a tour, do it! It is a lot of fun to walk through the underbelly of the Capitol Building and if you have a good guide, find out all kinds of facts and tidbits about Congresses past and present. I wish it were as open as it was previously, but even visiting the steps outside before beginning your trip down the mall is worth it for the photo op. The dome is quite impressive even from the base of the stairs.
