Kitsilano Beach is probably the closest Canada gets to Los Angeles. A charming beach with a beautiful view, come here to people-watch, soak up the sun and enjoy some nibbles from nearby 4th Avenue. "Kits Beach" is also home to public swimming pools and tennis courts. The BoatHouse restaurant, right on Kits Beach, is a great spot to nab some local seafood.
Occupying nearly 1000 acres, Stanley Park is one of the world's most beautiful urban parks, situated right next to downtown Vancouver. Vancouverites head here to rollerblade, run or cycle the 8.8km seawall that encircles the park and offers up great views of the mountains and English Bay. Stanley Park is home to three (yes, three!) lovely beaches, swimming pools, cafes, restaurants and more hiking trails. You might be lucky enough to spot a family of otters swimming alongside you, a friendly raccoon or any of the thousands of animals that call this park home.
Hop on the SeaBus to the North Shore and make your way up to Lynn Canyon Park. The star of the show is Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge - which is stunning, and unlike nearby Capilano Suspension Bridge, FREE. Experience Vancouver sunshine at its best, with dazzling hiking trails, waterfalls, swimming spots and plenty of picnicking opportunities. There is also a great little cafe and an ecology center at the entrance to the park.
This ten mile bike path runs along the coast and through marshland from North Falmouth to Woods Hole and is a fantastic family activity. Stop for a quick dip in the sea along the way on Surf Drive or pop into Eulinda's for ice cream in West Falmouth and browse the shops in Woods Hole at the end of the line. Flat most of the way, it's appropriate for any fitness level, and if you didn't pack a bike there are rental shops on Main Street in Falmouth.
