The regular burger my friend got was juicy and delicious. I had the peanut butter and jealousy. The burger was decent but a I was alittle disappointed because the waitress told me it's her favorite. It took me forever to finish the burger because it had so much peanut butter.
If you're their to enjoy the food, get either the regular burger or the thanksgiving burger. If you're feeling adventurous like me then I'd recommend the peanut butter one.
My friend and i showed up around 7:30 thursday night. There was a wait but it wasnt that bad. Server was attentive. Atmosphere was pretty loud.
Pros: Great ambience, super busy Saturday night. Overall I had a lot of fun. The drinks were unique and amazing. Hanzo is my favorite because i love sweet drinks and I would also recommend Bella Donna.
Con: pretty crowded and it took a while to get the drinks but it's worth the wait if this is your first time there. Don't pay with your credit card if you're ordering drinks from the side bar, bring cash. The reason I'm giving 3stars instead of 4 is because of the douchebag bartender I had. He took forever to make peoples drink because he was goofing around. He told my sister to give him a kiss if she wanted him to make a drink that's not on the list. I asked him for a specific drink I wanted that was on the list (but didn't know the name) and he kept mumbling or slurring that he didn't know what that was (it was the only drink on the list with a strawberry garnish). A girl next to me asked for a glass of water which he served then he pushed out of her reach. What pissed me off the most was that he forged extra $4 onto my credit card tip. Becareful If u see a shaggy, skinny, white bartender at the side bar on Saturday night.
My new favorite sandwich shop! So sad it's far away from where I live. Parking is residential.
I'm also bummed that the back patio is closed during the weekend. It seemed like a really nice place to read books / study.
I forgot what kind of boars head meat sandwich I ordered but they were amazing. If you like spicy food then I'd also recommend getting mango chili juice. It has a really great bite to it. Their brownies were too sweet for my sweet tooth.
Stopped by Miss Coffee after eating KBBQ next door (Donday) for something sweet. Got the $7 red bean shaved ice and I was really impressed. I was expecting it to be a bowl full of shaved ice topped with condensed milk and fruit. The ice was drenched with strawberry syrup, condensed milk, ice cream, sweet red beans, mochi and fruit :) It was big enough for four girls to enjoy.
Service was fast in the beginning then they left us alone the rest of the night. We left some cash on the table and left.
The atmosphere is cozy with cute asian decor. There's parking in the back.
BUGS: I've had ants, scorpions and crickets. If you want something exciting and tasty then I recommend the crickets. If you're not ready to go that crazy then the scorpions are tolerable. The ants/crickets comes with shoe-string potatoes *note: you get two tiny scorpions (one on each shrimp bread) per order* All three bugs were deep-fried and flavored so you won't taste them at all.
If this is your first time then a glass of wine or two before the meal might help you loosen up a bit.
I'm really bummed I couldn't get the larvae worms...maybe next time. I might get a little queasy because I heard that one tastes...funky.
Their other asian dishes are flavorful. Service was great, the manager stopped by a few times to make sure we were having a great time.
There's a lot of parking. It's near the museum. You might miss the restaurant if you don't look for the big sign that says "typhoon' on the building.
Funny thing: I've been there twice and both times after dinner I heard the crickets chirp at me outside the building.
Def a place to go with friends or on a date :) Heard they have live music.
Came back here few times for 2 reasons, JAZZ NIGHT and LARVAE WORMS.
JAZZ NIGHT: Took my sister and JR C. out on a Monday night. It's $10/person and rsvp is recommended for a decent table. The music was loud enough to distract my two peeps while they tried their ants, crickets and scorpions (after downing beer/wine/sake). We also ordered frog legs and we asked for it at least twice and it never came, which sucked cuz I always wanted to try them. Unfortunately they were out of worms (again) so I needed to find another victim to come back with me to try this place again.
LARVAE WORMS: yesss after coming here 4 times ( I come here for entertainment, NOT because I crave for them) I finally got the worms!...that def did not sound right. One of my friend always wanted to try this place so we celebrated her bday here. She was over an hour late so I waited at the bar. I got to have a nice chat with Juan, the bartendar, while I ate some lumpias and had their mediocre cocktail. Out of all the bugs I've tried, the worms were the yuckiest (as expected). The texture and the taste were, "bleh" even the 9 dipping sauces it came with didn't make it better lol.
JUAN, the Bartendar: he is such a cool guy and a great server. I don't mind eating at the bar again just to have a nice chat with him about salsa dancing. He was also mindful about keeping a drunk guy away from me.
WHY I GO HERE: I am passionate about trying weird stuff and going to unique places. It is an adventure I like to experience with friends and my sibs because it's something you will remember and talk about in the future. Not many people will do it so it makes it even more special. It's also fun to see what's out there in the world and keeps me open minded about everything around me.
After or before dinner, go upstairs when you leave the restaurant and check out the nice view of the airport from the patio.
The bugs they serve at Typhoon. In the order of 'decent-gross' to 'omg-it's-so-gross':
2. crickets or ants
3. larvae worms
2011: I had their Salted Caramel Cupcake (my ex-boss brought some to work) and it made me smile. That same week I found the store and shared a cupcake with my sister. The staff was a snob and the cupcake was too sweet so I didn't bother going back again.
2012: My friend, a cupcake lover, was in town and she wanted to check out the place because we were strolling around Manhattan beach pier. I'm glad we went back because I had a better experience with the service and the cupcakes.
I shared a large Baileys Blackout Crunch with my friends (she approved) and I got myself a mini Caramel Machiato cupcake. My friend took home the last Salted Caramel Cupcake and I'm sure she loved it.
The staff were friendly and the people who were working in the back were all smiles.
The only thing that sucks is that you have to pay for parking because it's near the beach.
Im born and raised in Torrance and I didn't know this place existed til now!
It's a great place to watch games and enjoy a good beer. Im really bummed I missed the happy hour by few minutes. I ordered their mac and cheese (Monday special), meatballs, beer sampler and pork fries. The gourmet bar foods were delicious. The pork fries are a must. I can't wait to come back for their beer and bacon Wednesday!
Parking isn't hard to find :)
Its a fun place to take people who never ordered via iPad :) the iPad was a little confusing at first but then you get the hang of it after few minutes.
I had the pulled pork burger and the sweet potato fries :)
Do not get their teriyaki sauce. It tastes like soy sauce.
Service was good. People stopped by to make sure you're doing ok.
I love how you can leave the restaurant when there's a wait. They text you when the seat is ready. No need to sit around for 15-20minutes for a table.
