The previous reviewers have said it all. This is one of California's many scenic wonders and one not to be missed. Even if you take the drive when the route is misted over with fog, as it often is during the summer, the views are spectacular.
Our favorite place to stay in Carmel. Our dog agrees. Dog and people friendly. You will see a lot of Doris Day movie posters and you will hear a lot of Doris Day background music. Somehow it becomes just another part of the charm of this place.
Carmel Beach is nice. Carmel River State Beach is nicer. It is much less crowded, great surf, great views and a walking trail that parallels the vast expanse of beach that provides a convenient way to return to the small parking lot after walking a mile or more through the sand....more
Every evening, as the rest of Carmel shuts down for the night around 9:00 - 9:30, you can see a steady stream of people heading toward Brophy's Tavern, a sports bar located a short walking distance from the center of town. Good company, edible food and most important, it's open!...more
