My friend hosted a birthday get together on a Saturday night in one of the cabanas at Avalon, and it was awesome! Great drinks and appetizers with music in the background. It wasn't too crowded, and if you're looking to mingle with others, this wouldn't have been your night. But it was great for me just to hang out with my friends. Service was great.
The best things about the Sheraton in Saigon were the service (staff was always friendly and helpful) and the location. It is in walking distance to a major mall (if you care to have access to stores you'd find in the states), an LV store, and various other hotels in the area. It's considered a pretty nice part of the city. After the most incredible stay at Sheraton Nha Trang, I was surprised and disappointed at the Sheraton Saigon in comparison though. Had I not had such an amazing stay at Sheraton Nha Trang, it probably wouldn't have been so bad. I can understand natural wear and tear over time for a hotel that's a few years old. However, I felt that the hotel suffered from lack of general upkeep on top of that. For example, when you step into the elevator, you can see a film of dirt in the elevator in places that can be cleaned easily. The fabric on the chairs and couches were fading, and in my suite, the air smelled somewhat stale, and the tub had dried watermarks all around. These are things that I feel a Sheraton and similar hotels in its class would normally avoid. Our package included free brunch and afternoon tea that included a mini buffet area of various pastries and afternoon snacks. Both were okay, but you are far better off spending the extra dollars on this towards awesome food outside the hotel.
