USS Hornet Museum

USS Hornet, Alameda, CA
12 reviews

Great attraction featuring WWII, Vietnam, Korea and NASA Apollo history. You get to explore a good portion of the ship plus they have docents who actually served on the ship. Allow a minimum of 2 hours for a very basic visit. They also offer memberships and special events. Oh, the views of SF are lovely too!!

The closest thing that I have seen to this place are the indoor sports complexes that you see in many Canadian cities. My son went to a birthday party here and I was impressed with the indoor playing fields, the exercise equipment, the climbing wall, and the friendly staff among other things. Lots of parking too. I agree with one ...

Club Nautique Sailing and Powerboating School

0.87 mi from USS Hornet Museum
    1 review

This is a rigorous sailing education. I was initially skeptical as it seemed a little bourgeois, but the instructors are top notch, and the standards for passing a class are rigorous: you can re-take a class if you fail, but no one get a pass unless they prove they mastered the material and can sail in the demanding condition of ...

    Ballena Isle Marina

0.87 mi from USS Hornet Museum

This is a nice marina. There are a lot of marinas on alameda island, but this one is located on the south side of the island, making it immediately available to the bay. Unlike the marinas in the oakland estuary, this means you are can sail freely immediately upon clearing the breakwater, which is pretty nice. There are not too ...

One of the coolest gyms I have ever been to... There are THREE soccer courts inside, a basketball court, a BAR, and a full gym... Even a full rock climbing wall and boulder. They do have a kids area, what does this gym NOT have?

A lovely and useful bridge. It looks particularly nice in the evening all lit up with lights. I fondly recall the 50th anniversary firework show. It was very impressive.

While not as iconic as it nearby cousin the Golden Gate, the Bay Bridge is the one that has the most character in my book. I really like how they designed the new eastern span, and the lights really showcase the support structure at night.

Walkers, runners, bikers, roller bladers and yogis all come to this beautiful lake to enjoy fitness outdoors. It is only a 20 minute walk from downtown Oakland/BART and there is always heavy foot traffic. I still enjoy going for an occasional run here on a nice day. and I do my best to go for post-lunch walks.

The Fox Theater is a great venue. It's a great looking building, I had a great view from my seat in the balcony and The Den (the lounge next door) is a great place to hang out if you arrive early for the show. Easy access via BART seals the deal.

It was an early date with Gayle years ago at Yoshi's that changed everything. The evening started in line for our Keiko Matsui when I was told that we should just be friends. Things continued to Dinner at their Japanese restaurant and I question that I'm still trying to answer properly. The show was thoroughly entertaining and the night club ...

An Art Deco stunner! When I lived in the East Bay, loved going to screenings of classic movies here, it's the full vintage experience...they do a spin game, an organist plays a few numbers, and they screen a short before the feature film. Their live performance line-up is impressive too.
