We didn't like Vail much. It was a quiet little "town" that seemed to consist of a bunch of condos and a ski area.

Vail's history is interesting. There was no ski resort or town here 60 years ago. The town's founder actually discovered the area's potential during World War II as a member of a skiing unit of soldiers and came back during the 1960's to build a resort. Vail is the closest to a European town that I've ever seen in the United States. The town is composed of chalets, town squares, clock towers, creeks, fancy restaurants and the like. It's so beautiful it almost looks fake.

My condo is located in Vail Village. This pedestrian only Village has so much to offer. Great shops and restaurants everywhere!

Quaint town at bottom of Vail Ski Mountain. Lots of shops and restaurants.

Gondola runs during the summer, too. Take it up and hike down.

One of the best ski resorts in Colorado. The skiing itself is fantastic and even if you don't want to ski there's plenty to do. Vail Village is full of shops and great places to eat and if you want to get out and do some hiking or dog sledding all of that is available as well.

I love Vail, my family used to go every Thanksgiving. The ski park is huge, there are multiple courses. You could ski all day and never do the same run twice. There are also plenty of other attractions if you have little ones who can not ski all day, or shoppers in your group. The sights from the mountain are breath taking and the courses offer something for every type of skier from the beginner to the advanced.

Beautiful landscape, great ski resorts, an assortment of dining options, condos and timeshares a plenty, this beautiful city in Colorado is by far one of my favorite Winter destinations

Everything a mountain town should be! Amazing skiing, great food, and wonderful people. You can also bask in the wonders that the views provide from the tops of the mountains. Even in summer this is an amazing place to visit.

Vail is one of the top ski resorts in the world simply because of the size of the resort and the amenities at your fingertips.

Going to have to disagree with Travis about it being the best-all-around mountain. It's probably one of the biggest, maybe the biggest, resort in all of Colorado if you count the myriad trails that go in and out of bounds in the backbowls but I don't think it's the best deal in Colorado by far. The tickets are ludicrously overpriced for what you can get elsewhere (look at the little-known gem of Winter Park as an example, also in Colorado) and lodging is pretty much out of the question short of anyone who can spend $150-300 a night. That being said, when there's good deep powder here, it's pretty incredible. The back bowl is HUGE, I mean HUGE with kickers galore, trees to glide through and some seriously challenging steep terrain. I love vail, but not if I'm paying.

Probably the best all-around ski resort in Colorado. The mountain of Vail is huge, encompassing everything from easy beginner to expert runs. The town is a cool faux-European ski village with good bars and restaurants.

If you are going in the summer, Vail is also fantastic. Tons of great biking trails, lots of hiking, rafting, etc.
