Minturn is a diamond in the rough. If you are staying in the Vail/Eagle area, it is a small local town just a few minutes up the road with one main street, but lots of character.

Colorado’s largest historic district is in Breckenridge, which was settled during the 1859 Gold Rush. But it wasn’t until the 1960s that western-movie-set-like “Breck” got its first ski runs. Fairplay sits on a windy plain in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. This is very high cattle country with astounding views in all directions. The tiny downtown has a bit of an Old West feel but is also a place where truckers and travelers stop to gas up.

Georgetown is your typical high altitude mountain town. Tiny, cold, well preserved and scenic. Bighorn sheep wander up and down the sides of route 70.

We spent the weekend in Carbondale and the valley. A quaint town with charm and character. Once you get off of Hwy 82 and head towards Main Street the small town feel is evident and appreciated!

If your intimidated by the glitz that often precedes Aspen's reputation, bring the family to Snowmass Village. Most of the lodging is Slopeside and the new base village has given this ski village a boost. Good restaurants, lots of great skiing terrain and lots of fun to boot.
