If you don't mind a little driving to get to the mountain, or are interested in doing some backcountry snowshoeing instead, the Val Roc is a great little motel. The establishment has winter trails just outside the rooms, and the heated pool is great for relaxing after a cold day of winter recreating. The room offered a bit more of a Vermont feel than some of the larger resorts, with tasteful decor and very scenic, unobstructed views from the window. The price was very reasonable considering the size of the room, which had a couch and was very conducive to relaxing. Although not operational in the winter months, the on-site tennis and basketball courts would provide for good outdoor recreation for both kids and adults.

The Val Roc Motel is situated a little way out of central Killington, and you’d need to drive a few miles to the main ski areas if you stayed here. However, its less-than-central location makes the Val Roc more accessible from Vermont’s Interstate 89, and gives the property plenty of space to stretch out in. The motel itself is a quite standard drive-up single-level building, with a wooded hillside providing a scenic backdrop. If you’re traveling with kids, they can enjoy the motel’s game room, basketball court and children’s playground without being near the busy road. The Skye Ship base lodge, with lifts up the mountain, is just a short way along Route 4. The motel’s guest rooms are basic but cozy, and a great value for single travelers, couples or families.

The Val Roc motel is a bit off the Killington main drag, and as a result, the rates are a bit cheaper. However, it is only a two-minute drive from Killington Resort’s Skeyeship gondola, and five minutes to Bear Mountain.
The rooms are quaint and comfortable, and decorated with wood paneling. While not my taste, the décor is a bit more unique than one would anticipate from the motel exterior. The television, coffee maker and microwave in the room were adequate.
I was not expecting any special amenities from the somewhat run down motel, but they did have a game room, hot tub, heated swimming pool, and a snowshoe trail. Overall, if you do not mind driving a few miles to the main apres ski area and restaurants, this motel has a great value considering the location.
