This is an ancient Indian Pueblo as well as a thriving arts community. There are only about 900 Indians who live in the giant condominium-apartment Pueblo and ajacent fams. The Pueblo is the largest, continuously occupied building in the USA. Early in the mornings, Taos men gather in white robes, on the rooves of the buildings, to "bring up the ...

    Taos Ski Valley

    8 reviews

Taos Ski Valley has always been worth a special trip. That's due to the historical nature of Taos itself and the pretty drive in. Arroyo Seco is a small village surrounded by farmland and mountains. The village itself is so cute and has so much to offer: local restaurants, local grocers, small vacation and room rentals, and even a yoga studio. Chimayo is a tiny little town about an hour north of Santa Fe. It is a good day trip from Santa Fe to visit the Sanctuario. The old church is really cool and they have a small room with special dirt that is supposed to have miraculous powers.

Worth the hour drive from Santa Fe. We recommend doing a private soak if you prefer clothing-optional and quiet. Even though signs are posted asking patrons to be quiet, it can still become quite a scene.

The Village of Truchas is along the High Road to Taos. They have an insular reputation and I've been happy to just pass through over the years. The local Penitentes culture is also fascinating to read up about.
