Cannaregio is a great place to explore if you're staying in Venice. The Il Mercante is a simple hotel, but with all the things needed for a short stay in Venice. Rooms were clean and nicely decorated, but no elevator and the breakfast room is in another building. If you are only staying one or two nights it's ok but ...

Walking distance from the train, this is a cute little bed and breakfast in Cannaregio, the old Jewish Ghetto of Venice. Rooms are very small and few, but well-maintained. Best Western Premier Hotel Sant' Elena

Best Western Premier Hotel Sant' Elena

    Class:
    2 reviews
Excellent! - 86% of guests recommend

The Sant'Elena is impressive in many ways. An unassuming façade reveals that this was once built as not a hotel, but a convent. The modern, luxurious interior brings to mind a boutique hotel, and the location is super peaceful, away from the commercial hustle of San Marco. This would make a great place to stay for the Lido Film Festival ...

If you are a young (or youngish, or young at heart) person coming to Venice for the first time with friends, I would highly suggest staying here.
