Well, am I one of the characters that you see here or just an observer - do they think I am as strange as I think they are? This is one place where strange is the norm and it is fun to see what lengths some people will go to to get noticed.

Venice Beach is really an interesting place. Sitting down at a cafe in front of the beach you could observe people. It is a really crowded place and you could meet anyone here. There are also some nice shops.

As an LA native, I usually never go to the Venice boardwalk unless I'm bringing a visiting friend to see the sights. It's a crazy place, full of weirdos, tourists and tacky crap. But it's fun!

Venice Beach is the quintessential southern California beach. There's lots to do and lots to watch other California free-spirit types do. The area around it caters to tourists, which is fine.

The Venice Boardwalk is filled with a conglomeration of people engaged in a hodgepodge of activity having minimal redeeming qualities - rather like New Orleans' Bourbon Street but lacking Bourbon Street's fine restaurants, jazz or Mardis Gras celebration.

There is a massive collection of funky shops on this boardwalk and there's probably no place with more interesting people watching outside of Beverly Hills. Bring your bike and you can bike all the way to Will Rogers State beach from here.

The beach scene is not really my cup of tea without the rest of the crew. I can stomach it by myself for so long till I get bored. Fortunately I am running through here with my sisters. It is alright weather and I walk in and out a couple of stores. There's a number of shops that I wouldn't mind getting ink'd at but then I remind myself that there are a number of world renowned places to go else where in LA. Over all the area is ok. Would I come back... perhaps when the weather gets better.
So here I am walking down the boardwalk minding my own business. Howeve as we are about to leave I hear an ever faint beat. I look around and I see a fire about 100 yards out onto the beach. I walk closer where the sand meets the pavement and listen.
*rave music and a bunch of half naked folks dancing around the fire
chanting... "ZION ZION ZION!"
*I say to myself...
and then continue on my merry lil way.
