    7 reviews

not as spectacular as some of the other missions I've seen, largely bc it's much smaller, but still worth a visit. they still use it as a church and hold regular services here. gorgeous stained glass depictions of scenes from the crucifixion and resurrection, and a tranquil little courtyard with the requisite fountain.

An amusement park right off the 101 freeway whose centerpiece is its miniature golf course. It's a fun place for kids and adults who are nostalgic for now hard-to-find miniature golf courses.

I really enjoyed visiting some of the Channel Islands during a high school field trip. The boat ride out there was a little rocky, but the views were impressive. We saw many seals on the short ride, and the weather was just right. We went to a very desolate island, but there were many trails, camping, picnic tables and phenomenal ...

The Museum of Ventura County first opened in 1913 in the newly built Ventura County Courthouse (now Ventura City Hall). Soon known as the Pioneer Museum, its collections of artifacts and curios were the legacy of Dr. Cephas Bard, a Pennsylvania doctor who came to Ventura after the Civil War. A compassionate man with wide-ranging interests, Dr. Bard accepted historical ...

    The Majestic Ventura Theater

26 South Chestnut Street, Ventura, CA

    1 review

Aptly named, the Majestic Ventura Theater is gorgeous: red carpet, tall ceilings, ornamented walls, and a balcony. It's also a major stop for touring acts, including local big-names like Yellowcard and Army of Freshman and national acts like Blondie and the Violent Femmes. If you have a chance to see a show here, take it. But drink across the street ...

    Marina Park

Marina Park is a quiet sanctuary by the beach. In its center rests an elaborate playground, where I saw a little girl glide across slide bars. Behind her set the sun, blinding eyes with bursting golden light. And I imagine she felt completely free, if only for a few seconds... and that is the greatest feeling in the world.

    Sans Souci Cocktail Lounge

21 South Chestnut Street, Ventura, CA

    1 review

This tiny bar and music venue has long been a local favorite as well as a natural stop for people coming to or from shows across the street at Ventura Theater. Beer is cold, drinks are strong, and lots of 20-something locals gather together on the outdoor patio.

We booked our boat transportation through Island Packers and went on an hour cruise out to the island where we encountered a pod (several hundreds) of white-sided dolphin feeding en masse, and a couple of migrating humpback whales. We landed at the Scorpion Anchorage, and were greeted on the dock by the NPS rangers who gave us a quick rundown ...
