With miles of beaches and lots of boutique shopping, and clubs that open at 1 am, Viareggio is one of Italy's beach party towns. It's also got some good bike trails, a nice old central city, great train transportation and is a short hop from Pisa. It's famous for opulent hotels from the turn of the century, and it's Carnival parade in February. Tip: during the summer season, most of the beaches are private. If you pay the fee you'll get a lounge chair, a changing room, and a shower. You're hotel will probably have a deal going with one of the local private beaches.

Miles of beaches and a great night-life. This town is host the an annual carnival and has a wide promenade lined with many fantastic shops.

Part of the coastal area known as Versilia, Viareggio is the largest town. It is accessible by public transportation and has excellent nightlife. This seaside can hardly be said to be untouched by man, and by August the water is often warm and not the most inviting colour. Luckily showers are provided at water's edge to rinse off unwanted seaweed.
