Formerly known as Victoria Hall, the Space Hotel falls somewhere between a hotel, a hostel, and a bar for spring break-ers. I was impressed with what the hotel had to offer backbackers including the option of a dorm-style room (either co-ed or all female) and private accomodations with ensuite bathrooms, a movie screening room, small gym, and bar. However the hotel also advertises that it caters to business guests—a claim which I became wary of when I saw the advertisements for nightly activities at the bar ranging from pole dancing to wet t-shirt contests. Still, this is definitely a good option for young people on a budget. It’s secure, not far from the city center, and the staff were all very friendly and accommodating of our requests.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Space Hotel, given that I approached it with the impression that it was little more than a backpacker haven. At first, this seemed like an accurate descriptor: the lobby is also an internet cafe and is plastered with brochures for tourist activities and cheap eats. However, despite the number of very reasonably priced eight-, six- and four-bedroom dorms (with female-only options available), the hotel also houses a number of very attractive (albeit bathroomless) queen rooms, complete with flat screen TVs and iPod docks.
To my amazement, the hotel even has a cinema room and a decent gym. The receptionist informed me that they try to cater to everyone from backpackers to businessmen, and while I wouldn’t recommend it for a business trip, it’s definitely the best hotel and location I can think of for the backpacker or family travelling on a budget.

Great backpackers to stay at until you find permanent accom. It's quite flashy for a backpackers, although still cheap. Got a gym, mini theatre and a nice rooftop (some construction work on at the moment though). Good location too.
