Lovely Villa, Beautiful Scenery and Spectacular Gardens. Well worth a day trip from Rome, if you are staying long enough to manage a visit.

Very lovely palace and garden on the outskirts of Rome. Can be done with public transport easily. Visit the palace which is very nice, but the gardens are absolutely wonderful !!!

the gardens of the villa are just great. there're lots of beautiful fountains and the biggest of those is a water game, playing music by the pressure of the water.

The palace is beautiful but the grounds and the fountains are amazing! Well worth the trip. The town is absolutely charming with so much history and natural beauty. Can't wait to go back.

Easy side trip from Rome, well worth the effort. The gardens (and especially the fountains) are great to walk around and look at.

Worth the trip if you have already seen all the "standard" sights of Rome. All the fountains were amazing!

Description

Villa d'Este is an example of Renaissance luxury at its best, with beautiful gardens, fountains, and a palace filling the massive area. Commissioned by Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este, the villa took decades to complete, often using marble and statues from the nearby Villa Adriana. The villa itself is decorated with fountains and a sixteenth century courtyard, while the gardens have a constant supply of water running through them. Deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001, the Villa d'Este is an absolute architectural beauty and a quick day trip from Rome.
