Village Yokocho

8 Stuyvesant Street, New York, NY
3 reviews

I've been coming here for Japanese food since my old favorite ("Go" on St. Marks) closed down. It gets loud in late hours as patrons have some alcohol in them. Nontheless, about everything on the menu meets or exceeds my expectation for a Japanese restaurant. I almost always pair my beer with the savory, tender, and hot-off-the-grill Takoyaki.

Full of great history, great beer (only two selections, Light or Dark), and great old dusty relics of the past. Can be crowded, but worth going to, even just to say that you've been there!

Cool little music venue, good for shows that aren't necessarily intimate, but still have require a 'closer' feel. Smaller DJ sets are the best here, I think, with anything else being secondary.

Underground in both senses of the word, this little late night gem is below street level on an unmarked black metal door (although there is a small sign that comes and goes). Great music, small brick hallways that lead you to the main room where tables are packed and sake is warm or cold depending on the region of origin. ...

What an amazing studio! A perfect way to slip away from the hustle and bustle of New York City. This studio is strictly donation only and cash only. It's a two dollar mat rental fee as well. I highly recommend going to a later class that's candle lit. This way you really get your zen on ;) also, they have ...

It's a New England/Boston sports bar. It was packed for the Superbowl but they ran the place very well and didn't see any problems. Nice tap beer selection. Didn't get to try the food.

The "vintage, unusual, funky" consignment shop is all that it describes itself to be. The clothes on the rack are constantly changing, and you'll find everything from Chanel to local designers' items here. Mens and women's items are available. It's one of the largest consignment stores in NYC and its reputation ensures that it only sells high-quality items.

This may be the best wine store in all of Manhattan. Extensive selection, broken down by region, and they even have a cold room to keep some of the wines cool. The staff here can help you if you need advice, and if you come on Tuesdays they have a selected region for the day with 15% off that region's ...

I really like this little consignment shop. It's very tiny and you have to sift through, but I feel like I always find some hidden gem when I am in there. They also give fairly good prices when you sell your items. Don't be turned off if the women who work there don't seem friendly - it's not you. They ...

If you're longing for East Village's punk-rock past and its mecca Trash and Vaudeville store - at the same location since the 1970s - Saint Mark's Pl is where you should go. Named after the progressive St Mark's Church, it has become today more of a tourist destination full of random vendors, authentic Japanese eateries, tattoo stores and various nightclubs.

This St Marks popular speakeasy is so sought out, I seem to never be able to go inside. But the experience alone of dialing 1 on the old phone and hostess opening the door is priceless. Entrance is via Cliff Dogs. For sure entry, make reservations!

Went here with a friend pre-Yelp when you had to do a bit more work to get the number for reservations. For first-time bar hopping in NYC, there's nothing cooler than heading down a dingy, deserted alley to be buzzed into a swanky speakeasy. Not sure who bartends at this point, but this is the most craftsmanship I've seen poured ...

An interesting little museum preserving the Lower East Side's pre-hipster heritage. Learn about the hardships and dangers associated with life before workers had rights. Depending on your political views, either romanticize this or feel thankful ...
