Love love love this place. I always tell my friends it's like going down the rabbits hole in Alice in wonderland. From the street the entrance looks very unassuming and somewhat dodgy but once you down the stairs and finally find your way in thru the grass wall you enter a wonderland of fun decor and good wine. I prefer to go for a glass or two of wine and a cheese board before heading out into the gaslamp. Becomes a nightclub later in the evening but feel it loses it's charm when the lights go out and it gets too crowded.

There is no way of sugar coating this. Syrah is by far the most unique, fabulous, creative venue in all of San Diego County. If you have only one opportunity to go to the Gaslamp Quarter do not hesitate one millisecond; go directly to Vin De Syrah on 901 5th Ave.

Without ruining the fun for you first timers, I’ll give you a few key points on why I LOVE this place.

The adventure begins just by trying to locate 901 5th Ave. Keep your eyes peeled. You may be wandering around the block a few times.

Next, you must find how to get in. (That’s all I’m giving you!) Beware! Guests that have already made it in are watching you!!

When you finally make it in to this fantasy land you are immediately taken to another world. Those of you familiar with Alice in Wonderland will feel very much like you’re a character in the movie (both animated and not). The oversized chairs, the outrageous centerpieces hanging from the ceiling, the wallpaper; the details around the entire venue were so thought out. I’m truly impressed with every inch.

Do not come too hungry. The menu is limited, but perfect for a before dinner snack (if you ever leave) or something to go along with a glass of wine. This is a wine parlor for goodness sake. We feasted on the cheese board, veggie board, and the meat board. “The Coconut Gouda was amazing!”

Our experience here has made us huge fans and I know we will be recommending this spot to everyone we know for any birthday party, girls’ night out, date night, dance night, promotion celebration, anniversary, and any other reason to celebrate.

Syrah is a nice wine bar downtown that offers a unique atmosphere (think of an Alice in Wonderland theme). It has good wine (and at a reasonable price per bottle compared to some other venues), with a couple seating areas ranging from bar, to comfy chairs, to intimate booths. As the night gets later, expect a DJ to come in and the volume to increase, so go early for conversation, later for dancing.

We showed up around 10pm and the line wasn't that long. Go down the stairs with walls covered in artsy graffiti and you enter through a wondrous door camouflaged in greens.

The club was spacey and beautifully decorated in Alice and Wonderland theme! Lil crows, umbrellas from the ceiling, bird cage lamps, ginormous chairs, deck of cards from the ceiling... I love all the details! It got pretty crowded around 10:30 and finding a place to sit was a bit challenging.

DJ was great but the dance floor was small. Yummy wine! I want to try their cheese plate next time!

Hidden gem in dt sd! Such a cool spot! I feel like I'm in Alice in the wonderland! There are play cards on the ceilings and light up umbrellas in here! Great selection of wine!

A sexy subterranean spirits and wine parlor in the Gaslamp. You might have a problem figuring out where the entrance is, but don't worry, it's not like anyone will be watching you :P

Down the rabbit hole you go!

I don't want to add more details as it's more fun if you experience it for yourself! :)

One of the greatest bars I have ever been to! The hidden door covered in ivy is not only a cleaver way to disguise this hidden gem, it also adds a lot of humor watching people stumble around for a while unable to get inside and keeping out those not smart enough to find it.

Came here last weekend. It's kind of like a speakeasy (sp?) because you have to go downstairs to get here. Once you get down, you are surrounded by vines (sort of) with lots of chairs and couches to lounge on. Not sure how much the drinks were because I didn't pay, but it was a nice place to sit down with some friends and have a few drinks. I definitely wouldn't mind coming here. Only con is that this place closes around 1am!!! Pretty strange..

This bar/club has it all; interesting decor (like Alice down the rabbit hole), creative cocktails, good snack gourmet bar food, and plenty of comfortable seating. Depending on the day, you may need to make a reservation for bottle service because it is very popular and gets packed!. We were there on a Friday. There was a burlesque show and then a DJ started spinning vinyl while a girl played violin, awesome!

If you're into the pretentious clientele base and bartenders, this is the place for you. I've only been here once and never had any motivation to come back. They have great creative decor though. For that I give them 3 stars.

This place has beautiful decor and delicious signature cocktails as well as a vast wine selection. It has a very mellow vibe and is definitely a fun (and unique) place to have drinks in the Gaslamp.

Syrah is an amazing Alice in Wonderland inspired wine and full bar parlor. Bottle service can be affordable when choosing wine over spirits. The food consists of meat and cheese platters for the most part, so eat before or after, but great snacks.

Really cool wine bar (if you are into wine), with a 'secret' entrance: a wall covered with ivy-- look for the door handle and enjoy some wine in the evening!

LOVE this place! It's a night out with good wine, Alice in Wonderland style. Once you find the door, you'll be amazed at what lies inside. Fridays and Saturdays get hot (plan to wait in line for a bit) and the DJs don't disappoint. Dress hot... It is a wine Parlor after all!

With an Alice and Wonderland type mystique, Syrah shocked me a bit at first glance with its underground oddities. I suggest arriving a bit early, as Syrah gets a bit hectic and loses its stylish wine bar feel. However, after a few glasses of wine, the DJ and dance floor may grow a bit more appealling so I will throw a good word out for Syrah on your downtown agenda.
