Discreetly tucked inside a heavily-graffitied building on Damen Avenue, the Violet Hour is easy to miss. No signs mark the entrance, but you can usually spot it from the long lines snaking down the street on the weekends. If you get there early enough to get in on the first come first serve basis, you'll enjoy a sexy, speakeasy environment lit only by candlelight with unique craft cocktails and stunning interiors.

Amazing craft cocktails in a speakeasy style bar! You might miss this place as there is no signage out front. Just look for the building on Damen at Wicker Park with graffiti outside. Walk through the heavy velvet curtains and enter into a swanky lounge.
There could be a wait at any given night, but the cocktails are worth the wait and the $13 price tag. Loved their Sazerac and Old Fashioned.
There's a dress code, so don't show up in a hat and sneakers. Keep it classy :)

This is one venue that has a line outside because there really is no available space/table inside. Though I'm never a fan of waiting, they seem to be pretty fair about it. Once you get inside the somewhat-hard-to-find venue, you'll have a place to sit while you imbibe on perfectly crafted cocktails and small bites. Great date spot.

Incredible. Hands down my favorite place in the city to go for a drink. Normally I prefer a dive bar to fancy, but this is the exception. Everything from the unmarked front, to the velvet curtains, to the high back chairs and the dark and dreamy atmosphere makes this a great experience. The drinks are truly top notch and pack a punch.

Great for a date or small group of friends, this bar changed Chicago's cocktail scene. With only the glow of a lamp and a graffiti'd wall to indicate you're at the entrance, it has all the makings of a modern day speakeasy. Dress up a bit, prepare to keep your hands off your phone, and be patient with the wait. Once inside, you'll find yourself in a bar I can only imagine Alice in Wonderland having. The mixed drinks are all phenomenal - classics are impeccable, but trust in your bartender/server's suggestions too.

I think this place is overly pretentious for what it is... yes, it was in GQ, yes it's hidden like the prohibition era blah blah, you know what you're going to get, the drinks are going to be good, and it's going to be expensive. Barrelhouse Flat / Aviary have equal quality, less showy.

This place is a must experience. A speak easy where hats, and phones are discouraged.
The drinks are all mixology type drinks and they have some of the best bartenders in all of chicago mixing here.
**Perfect for a date or small intimate group. Expect to wait in line.

It's all class at Violet Hour. This bar was actually recently profiled as one of the best bars to visit in America. The specialty cocktails are whipped up by a mixologist and you sit down here to drink, no trashiness is tolerated.
If you're in the mood for a nice date night with classy drinks, this is a good bet. Also great for a ladies night.
