Volpetti sells some of the best cheese and meat in Rome, as well as running a pretty spot-on tavola calda (buffet) next door. While it's not the cheapest place in the world, the cry-tears-of happiness level of the food is worth every extra euro cent.

Choose to buy incredible meats and cheeses from the deli section or head 'round the back to the tavola calda, where you can eat a cooked lunch for a reasonable price. The quality at Volpetti is second to none.

I put a thin slice of meat that costs 139 euros per kg. I also had a sampling of two balsamic vinegar types that (no joke) made my eyes roll back. This is the fancy stuff that Volpetti serves. The staff are friendly and speak English, so finding what you need is a breeze even senza italiano.
