If you ever wondered what it would look like if South Beach threw up on a classic Washington, DC hotel, step inside! The trendy almost Pier One quality kitsch that decorates the lobby and outdoor rooftop fortunately is a superficial cosmetic change to this historic building. Standard W. Service is underwhelming but rooms are updated and appear clean. Phenomenal location. Restaurant on site.
It's claim to fame (and rightly so) is one of the most breathtaking views of DC. People watching amidst the jarring bass laden beats is entertaining on a Friday or Saturday night.

had lunch and drinks on the roofterrace, while the gardens where open and it was like being in a movie..the helicopter, the security on the rooftops, and we did explore and let us tell about the hotel. it was great!! and we could even go into the gardens because there where still tickets! and this all without any planningRecommended for:Local Culture

It's a hip place with a chill lobby that's good for people watching. Even the rooms are set up trendy. Definitely check out the rooftop bar, P.O.V. (Point of View Terrace); it overlooks the back of the White House, but even without that, it's a nice view of the city. If you're on a business trip, might not be a bad place to take clients/partners. The only caveat about this hotel is that they don't mess around when it comes to events/security. The president had a fundraiser here when a big chunk of my company was in town, and an executive got wanded between just the hotel gym and his room.

The bar overlooks the White House and has a great view. The only downside is that there is a $35 minimum. Their food options aren't great, so it's somewhat of a challenge if you don't want to have a lot to drink to reach to the minimum. Besides that, I'd highly suggest checking it out.

Meh. The W folks bought this Washington landmark, famous for two things: it's lobby is where the term 'lobbying' was coined, and it has a fantastic view of the White House (and Treasury if you're into that sort of thing).
Sadly, the W really doesn't understand the difference between New York and Washington, and brought in a standard package of try-to-make-you-feel-cooler-than-thou trappings, including imposing looking guys wearing ear buds, red velvet ropes for the (ancient) elevators, and a decor that's a hot mess even by Miami standards. The staff has that diffident air of superiority that, again, I think is supposed to make you feel cool because you try to be above it, but in the end is just lame.
Two good things: the steaks at the restaurant are great, and the view really is worth a look.
But do yourself a favor, stay somewhere else and go to the roof for drinks...if the guys with the ear buds will let you up.
