On the wilder back side of the West Maui Mountains, just off the Kahekili Highway near the 7-mile marker, this hiking trail is rarely crowded. Locals walk their dogs and trail runners scale the switchbacks, which lead from pasture land up through the forest where eucalyptus leaves rustle to a small hilltop peak. The summit is often clouded over, but just wait 5 minutes or so and if you're lucky, the skies will clear and you'll get a dizzying view into the lush interior of the Waihee Valley. Scarf down your trail lunch at the picnic table right by the summit.Recommended for:
