One of the richer sections of the Big Island of Hawaii located on the Kona side of the island a bit North of downtown Kailua. Waikaloa is where all the resorts are located like the Hilton Waikaloa, the largest resort in all of the Hawaiian Islands.

Great resort. Many restaurants. 2 beautiful and challenging golf courses. I think this is one of the best places to stay when you come to Big Island.

It's a resort area and thus quite beautiful. There are two shopping areas here: Kings' Shops and Queens' Marketplace. The former is fancier and smaller than the latter. Waikoloa is a nice place to visit if you're on the Kona side of the island.

We've stayed with our kids, twice, at Kolea - condos that are sandwiched between the Mariott (and the Kings and Queens Shopping centers) on one side and the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the other.
We like the beach - never too crowded - and great hiking along the edge on the lava-rocks, checking out turtles and stopping to make sand castles or read a book outloud. It's an easy walk to the shops for groceries or food. And every trip we pay for a day pass at the Hilton so the kids can do all the different pools, the lagoon, etc. We've loved it.
