"Da plane! Da plane!" You probably have seen a Fantasy Island opening scene. This is the place!

Parking is extremely limited. Please regard all the signs for your safety.

The falls are easy to reach just off the main road with a little parking lot. Short walk and you can be saying, "Boss, da plane, da plane!"

Wailua Falls, along with the nearby Opaekaa Falls, showcases the great natural beauty of Kaua'i!

Accessing Wailua Falls is easy, requiring a scenic ten minute drive off the main road, Highway 56. At the end of Maalo Road, a small parking area provides great views of the falls.

Even if you do not have much time, this is a great activity. You can see the falls and get back on the road within 30 minutes. Who doesn't have 30 minutes to see a beautiful waterfall?

Lookout point is very close to the road, no hiking required. A quarter of a mile down the road is a steep hike to the bottom of the falls, for the more adventurous.

Beautiful lookout over the falls. For a avid backpackers, a strenuous hike down the slippery trail to bottom of the falls.

If you're seeking waterfalls, this is a good one that flows most the year, but is particularly strong in the winter months. About 40 minutes from Princeville.

A beautiful waterfall that changes with the weather, really. It can be a double waterfall with a gentle character on sunny, dry days, or a full blown rushing gushing fall on or after rainy days. Either way, if you love waterfalls, you'll love Wailua Falls.

This majestic, 80-foot tiered waterfall is located close to the roadside lookout for everyone to enjoy. The falls was made famous when it was featured in the opening scene of the popular television show, Fantasy Island. This is very close to the condo, less than 10 minute drive and easy to find.
Look for the rainbow over the pool that collects at the bottom of the falls :)
    Useful Information:
Lookout located right next to the waterfall - no hiking required!
Slippery, steep hike down to the bottom of the falls and its pool is 3/10 of a mile down the road
Best viewing time is early morning when the sun is shining on the water
Falls change dramatically depending on rainfall
Top of the falls is flat with channels cut into the rock from centuries of flowing water

Wailua Falls is a must see! Bring your camera. The parking is not so great but that's the drivers problem, not yours. Let him park the car while you watch one of natures great sights. The falls are close to the Lihue airport and Lihue itself. This is a good stop to make on the drive to the west side of the island.

If you want to view some nice waterfalls without too much effort, this is the place. Easy access with a short drive on paved roads not too far outside of Lihue. Follow the road until it ends and there you are. Parking can be a little difficult on busy days, and limited viewing area from the highway shoulder, but otherwise an outstanding scenic wonder.

If you're old enough to remember the television show, "Fantasy Island" ("De Plane! De Plane!), you might recognize Wailua Falls from the opening credits. And if you're old enough to remember the show, you don't want to try to negotiate the muddy, slippery path to the bottom of the falls. Just enjoy the view from afar.

Easily accessible Wailua Falls can be seen from the roadside. One of the few attractions on Kauai where you can just drive up and enjoy the view. No hiking necessary, unless you want to get to the bottom of the falls. We hiked down. It is definitely do-able. A 15 yr old, and two 40-50+ outta shape adults and we made it!! Just be careful and expect to get dirty on the way! Don't wear anything you'd be mad about if the stains didn't come out! The falls are beautiful from up top too. Wailua Falls is most recognized in the opening credits of the long-running television show "Fantasy Island.

In 1980 we first visited Kauai. Before that we've stayed in Oahu. Maui and the Big Island because we heard that Kauai is the wettest spot on earth. Who wants to spend their vacation where it rains practically every day. We found out that all this rain, an average of about 450 inches a year, falls on the mountain "Waialeale." Poipu Beach, however, only gets about 35 inches a year. Due to the rainfall in the mountains there are numerous water falls throughout the island. One of the best known and visited is Wailua Falls. It has been used as background for many movie- and television sets. You want to drive there and take lots of pictures...

This is the waterfall featured in the opening credits of old "Fantasy Island" TV show. A very picturesque spot with a great view. It's usually not overpopulated with tourists to "get in the way of your photographs" from what I recall. Definitely a must see while in Kauai.

The nickname of these falls are "secret falls" -- which is not fitting at all, seeing as how they are one of the most popular places to visit on the island! No matter how you get there, you will have to do at least a little bit of walking to get to the falls. None of the terrain around the falls is very stressful, so don't worry - but they're not right off the road by any means. After you get there, you can enjoy a nice snack or lunch sitting on the rocks and then dive into the clear (cold!) water around the falls. You won't be alone, but it's still a gorgeous place to visit!

Description

Located only a short drive from Lihue, Wailua Falls is one of the more pristine waterfalls on the Garden Isle. The water here falls from three different points, so what you see is more a trifecta of cascading water than your run-of-the-mill single stream. Pouring from the sheer exposed rock face, the falls here plummets some 80 feet into a circular pool surrounded by jungle vegetation that has to be seen in person to appreciate fully. If you find yourself in Kauai grab your fully charged camera and head over to Wailua Falls for some of the best photo opportunities anywhere on the islands.
