A beautiful waterfall that changes with the weather, really. It can be a double waterfall with a gentle character on sunny, dry days, or a full blown rushing gushing fall on or after rainy days. Either way, if you love waterfalls, you'll love Wailua Falls.

This majestic, 80-foot tiered waterfall is located close to the roadside lookout for everyone to enjoy. The falls was made famous when it was featured in the opening scene of the popular television show, Fantasy Island. This is very close to the condo, less than 10 minute drive and easy to find.
Look for the rainbow over the pool that collects at the bottom of the falls :)
Lookout located right next to the waterfall - no hiking required!
Slippery, steep hike down to the bottom of the falls and its pool is 3/10 of a mile down the road
Best viewing time is early morning when the sun is shining on the water
Falls change dramatically depending on rainfall
Top of the falls is flat with channels cut into the rock from centuries of flowing water

Wailua Falls is a must see! Bring your camera. The parking is not so great but that's the drivers problem, not yours. Let him park the car while you watch one of natures great sights. The falls are close to the Lihue airport and Lihue itself. This is a good stop to make on the drive to the west side of the island.

If you want to view some nice waterfalls without too much effort, this is the place. Easy access with a short drive on paved roads not too far outside of Lihue. Follow the road until it ends and there you are. Parking can be a little difficult on busy days, and limited viewing area from the highway shoulder, but otherwise an outstanding scenic wonder.Recommended for:Outdoor Enthusiasts

This are very easy access and beautiful. The parking could be a little tricky since it could be crowded at times.

If you're old enough to remember the television show, "Fantasy Island" ("De Plane! De Plane!), you might recognize Wailua Falls from the opening credits. And if you're old enough to remember the show, you don't want to try to negotiate the muddy, slippery path to the bottom of the falls. Just enjoy the view from afar.

Easily accessible Wailua Falls can be seen from the roadside. One of the few attractions on Kauai where you can just drive up and enjoy the view. No hiking necessary, unless you want to get to the bottom of the falls. We hiked down. It is definitely do-able. A 15 yr old, and two 40-50+ outta shape adults and we made it!! Just be careful and expect to get dirty on the way! Don't wear anything you'd be mad about if the stains didn't come out! The falls are beautiful from up top too. Wailua Falls is most recognized in the opening credits of the long-running television show "Fantasy Island.

In 1980 we first visited Kauai. Before that we've stayed in Oahu. Maui and the Big Island because we heard that Kauai is the wettest spot on earth. Who wants to spend their vacation where it rains practically every day. We found out that all this rain, an average of about 450 inches a year, falls on the mountain "Waialeale." Poipu Beach, however, only gets about 35 inches a year. Due to the rainfall in the mountains there are numerous water falls throughout the island. One of the best known and visited is Wailua Falls. It has been used as background for many movie- and television sets. You want to drive there and take lots of pictures...
