Uber-fancy hotel, bar and restaurant... and yet, I would like a little more personality out of a venue. Everyone is so buttoned-up, it can be a little stiff, which has its place, of course. Restaurant and lavish bar room are everything you would expect. Rooms have incredible views, beautiful furnishings... I would stay here to be romantic and not to "play".

When I stayed at the Elysian, I was absolutely amazed! :)

I really enjoyed the personal service, as it seemed that everyone knew me by name. I went to Chicago with a few of my girlfriends for a concert and they took care of our every need. Water bottles were being offered to us left and right, and the house car proved to be a very convenient service for those unfamiliar with the city (like myself).

The room that they upgraded us to upon arrival was stately. We loved the views and the large, well appointed bathroom. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat if not just to sleep in the ultra soft beds one more time!

When you get to the very tippy top of what one can possibly pay to stay one night in a hotel, it’s the details that distinguish the 5-star properties from one another. The hoteliers behind the Elysian, which opened less than two years ago, clearly had kept that in mind. Though the building is brand new, it feels like the 1920’s on the good side of the stock market crash. There’s no garish or even noticeable sign here as you pull into a circular stone-paved drive and enter the best imaginable combination of modern conveniences and old-school service. All the rooms are huge and most are suites with all the modern electronic conveniences – homes and docks for your gadgets – and then some. There is actually an LCD television inset in the bathroom, and considering how huge and posh it is in there, I can imagine spending enough time in there to catch a show. Tips are not accepted by employees, which makes the uber-attentive service all the more enjoyable. There is a first-come Lexus with driver that will take you anywhere within two miles of the hotel, which makes its “not Michigan Avenue” address in the near north all the friendlier.

I stayed at the Elysian on a business trip recently and it was superb. The rooms were large, spacious and beautifully equipped for every business purpose in the book -- and best of all, they allowed me to relax for my meetings. The service, as can be expected at top-notch hotels, was outstanding, and I got used to being called "Mr Westin" regularly (for one of the first times in my life...) Overall, I loved the Elysian and whenever my company sends me to Chicago again I will jump at the chance to stay at the Elysian.

Absolutely my fav hotel in the city, I'm so sad it was bought out and turned from a boutique to a chain (albeit a really nice chain). Ria is reconcepting (best seafood by far in the landlocked Midwest) and currently closed, but was phenomenal. More hotels should adopt the no trip policy, it really puts the emphasis on hospitality.

It was so hot and exhausted when I finally got to the lobby. I guess one of the staff members saw that because he brought me bottled water. The décor made me feel like I was back in Roman times with lots of marble, pillars, and sculpture. Someone told me that Étienne Balsan, Coco Chanel’s benefactor, designed the formal looking and fabulous restaurant, which had a giant raw bar display as soon as I walked in. Local artist Francine Turk did the artwork in the dining room, and then while she was there, painted one of the pieces that hangs in the main dining room. They are worth stopping in to see even if you don’t eat there. The TV in the mirror was so cool! I had never seen anything like that except in movies, so that impressed me even though I am not a huge TV fan in general. Really classy Romanesque hotel!
