By far my new favorite restored building on the Bund, the work that has been done to this turn of the 20th century space is absolutely exquisite and stands for every that the Waldorf represents around the world. The hotel is split into two buildings, the resorted side and new side. The resorted part opens on to the Bund and is home to The Long Bar (it has an extremely long bar) and was once home to the Shanghai Sailor’s Club in the 1950’s. The bar is a replica of the original space and is a must see while down on the Bund. Stop in for a drink and you’ll be very happy you did, especially if you’re a whisky fan as they are home to one of the most extensive whisky collections in China. The historic suites in the restored section of the hotel are very plush and welcoming, more geared toward high-end tourism in my option. The suites in the new part of the hotel seem to be styled a bit more for business travellers, although both types of suites are stunning and have wonderful amenities. If you’re a fan of Champagne brunches be sure to book for a Sunday as the Waldorf is home to an extremely lavish brunch that tours through the hotel’s bars and restaurants.

No matter where you are in the world, The Waldorf Astoria name is synonymous with elegance. The Shanghai outpost lives up to it’s brand reputation with large, statement staircases, service that is always on point, and one of the city’s classiest bars. The Long Bar (so named for its 39 foot mahogany bar, which was reportedly once the longest bar in the world) attracts a classy crowd of moneyed locals and tourists from around the world. While there, I was swooned by soft jazz and plied with tasty cocktails served by polite English-speaking staff dressed to the nines in what I imagine to be the classy service attire of an era gone by.

Fantastic hotel in a great setting in one of the older buildings on The Bund. Located near the south end of The Bund the immediate surroundings are less chaotic than at the hotels nearer Nanjing Road.
The rooms are very well appointed and a bit posh, while hotel service, breakfast and atmosphere are all impeccable. Note the little signs everywhere telling you a historic fact about the item it's attached to, and also check out the bar on one side of the lobby, which is also historic.
Even if you don't stay here it is worth visiting for the historic feel to the place and maybe a drink at the bar.

The Waldorf on the Bund oozes luxury, excellence and an exceptional Shanghai experience. The newer tower is connected to the historic bund side building by the beautiful Grand Brasserie that serves up a Sunday Brunch Tour for a mere 888 RMB. Your tour starts at the famous Long Bar with Champagne and Oysters and at your leisure you are invited to move to the dining hall to finish your feast of caviar and lobster (among other delicacies). The historic tower faces the Pudong Skyline dead on. It’s probably the best view of the Pudong skyline from a building on the Bund. Only suites are available, and they start at a staggering 7,500 RMB per night. The newer tower offers standard rooms starting at 5,000 and the higher ones also have stellar skyline views as well. The rooms are clad in a light green with thoughtful touches and low-key excellence. Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries are at your disposal and the smart toilet that opens via motion sensor is another modern addition. If you want elegance and price is no option- this is your hotel. The service and facilities are world class.
