Wan Chai in the northern quarter of Hong Kong Island is the commercial business district of Hong Kong.

Home to some of Hong Kong's seedier nightlife. Pretty by the water but I'm not a big fan. Avoidable unless you have a specific place that you are looking for. Have gone to a few decent restaurants and bars here but try to avoid the area.

Old and new collide head on in a heady mix of Colonial and Oriental influences which make this an exciting, vibrant and atmospheric part of the city.

Ahhh Wanchai Wednesdays... Wanchai is really the closest thing in HK to a Red Light District. The streets are packed every Wednesday night in Wanchai around a bar called Carneggie's and along the war several women of the night will try to get you to come into their strip clubs. Pretty sketchy, but definitely provides some good stories and funny memories.

We stayed in Wan Chai for about a week in late July/early August. We rented an apartment using AirBnB.com and had a wonderful experience. The neighborhood was very convenient to tour around Hong Kong and there were lots of restaurants and shops right outside our door. I would highly recommend staying in Wan Chai while visiting Hong Kong!

Not as good as LKF, but still a great place to get drunk.

Description:

History tells us that Wanchai was once a red light district in the 1950s and had a reputation for being very welcoming to foreigners. Alot has changed since then. There are still many pubs, bars and night clubs in the area, this is still the place where many business people come to unwind. Cheaper than Lan Kwai Fong, some of the foreign kids call Wanch (Wanchai's nickname) their weekend home.
