Such a great atmosphere! Had to present my poem from the Scholastic Writing Awards here, but didn't get a chance to try the food. Must investigate more.

    Ben's Chili Bowl

    1213 U St Nw, Washington, DC 20009
    4
    45 reviews

Tourist stops are touristy for a reason usually. This U Street corridor stop is a DC icon. Serving up half smokes with chili, onions and cheese sauce or fries laden with the same, shakes and sodas through the race riots to the Obama administration. Only two people eat for free: Cosby and Obama so bring cash. Because they don't accept ...

    Pret A Manger

1155 F Street Northwest, Washington D.C., DC 20004-1312, United States
    3.5
    3 reviews

Yay! I've had Pret in London and there's no locations in California, so I was happy to stumble upon a Pret coming out of the metro station. Their concept is fresh food made every day. Prices are relatively cheap compared to a standard dinner in a restaurant and even a deli. It's healthy food too and they have many sandwiches ...

    Five Guys

2301 Georgia Ave Nw, Washington, DC 20001
    4
    7 reviews

I have eaten at several Five Guys (not this one specfically) and have always enjoyed the food. Instead of hamburgers, I have gotten loaded hot dogs and they were excellent, IMHO. Fries are great too. And if you like peanuts, you are in luck because they are free for the eating.

Politics & Prose Bookstore & Coffeehouse

5015 Connecticut Avenue Northwest, Washington D.C., DC
    5
    3 reviews

As the name suggests, this independent bookstore strikes a great balance between, well, politics and prose, often playing host to some of the world's best authors and most well known politicians. The store has survived in a culture of Kindles and iBooks because it is unique. The staff are extremely friendly and the maze of shelves is perfect for getting ...

    Granville Moore's

    1238 H Street Northeast, Washington D.C., DC
    5
    2 reviews

People come for the mussels, but GM is well stocked to ensure your dish is well accompanied by the right beverage. The restaurant touts its significant array of Belgian beers, from stouts to pale ales. They keep some excellent American craft beers in stock as well. The food is out of this world and the staff is standing by to ...

    Toki Underground

2nd Floor (above The Pug), 1234 H Street NE, Washington D.C., DC
    5
    6 reviews

One of the smallest restaurants on H St. if not in all of DC, Toki Underground and their ramen noodle focused menus was a badly needed addition to the DC food scene. We love their veggie and chicken soup bowls. Their sake selection is also fantastic - we ended up sampling three or four sakes over the course of the ...

    Burger Tap & Shake

2200 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC
    5
    2 reviews

I know there are way too many burger places popping up in the District nowadays, but I actually wanted to write on this one because 1) the burger was fantastic and 2) their beer selection is fantastic. Any restaurant that makes the effort to incorporate Goose Island Sofie on tap is definitely worthy of a review. Please go here if ...

    Old Ebbitt Grill

    675 15th St Nw, Washington, DC 20005

    9 reviews

I mean...it's a really popular place, they have a kids' menu and it's full of history. The clam chowder was fine but not outstanding. Actually, everything we had was just fine. We waited an hour for a table for 'just fine'. Meh.

    RedRocks Firebrick Pizzeria

1036 Park Road Northwest, Washington D.C., DC

    4 reviews

This is brick oven pizza done right, with atmosphere to boot. This is the kind of place I want to go in the winter because it just feels warm inside (and they have some great dark beers to really keep you warm). Start with some olives then go for the pancetta and pineapple pizza. I don't love their brunch, but ...

**BLOODY MARY IN A WOODLEY PARK DINER** Headed here after the conference. AMBIANCE ========= Nice diner layout. Spacious and comfortable. BEVERAGE ========= BLOODY MARY - $8 Appealing tall glass of a solid Bloody Mary. Wasn't strong enough overall for me. RATING: 3/5 SERVICE ======= Waiter was friendly and attentive. Hawk 'n' Dove

329 Pennsylvania Ave Se, Washington, DC 20003

The Hawk 'n' Dove is neither the most amazing menu nor the best happy hour you'll find in Washington, but that's not really the point. This divey pub has earned a place in Washington history through the countless politicos who have sought refuge there. From insiders to interns, the Hawk 'n' Dove has been a popular watering hole for years. ...

    The Front Page

1333 New Hampshire Ave Nw, Washington, DC 20036
    3.5
    6 reviews

Good happy hour option right by Dupont Circle. If you enter from the side facing the metro stop walk through to the back, where they have a second bar, which is a lot quieter, and a much better option if you want to relax with a beer and talk to your friends

Awesome food, some of the best I had in DC. I had a three course meal of southern comfort food, all of which were delicious. Place does get crowded and loud. Supposedly has a great brunch according to the rest of my family (wasn't able to go w/ them).
