Politics & Prose Bookstore & Coffeehouse

    5
    3 reviews

As the name suggests, this independent bookstore strikes a great balance between, well, politics and prose, often playing host to some of the world's best authors and most well known politicians. The store has survived in a culture of Kindles and iBooks because it is unique. The staff are extremely friendly and the maze of shelves is perfect for getting ...

    Filter Coffeehouse & Espresso Bar

    4.5
    2 reviews

Filter is a very small coffeehouse on I St with a small number of seats upstairs and classic standing tables downstairs. They serve high end pour over coffee and solid espresso drinks. For the Aussies looking for a flat white - you'll find it here. The best coffee in the West End area of DC.

Tryst is a good place to go with small to medium groups of friends (though, you may have trouble finding a table). The coffee and teas are good, and they have good food based on what I've tried there.

    La Colombe

    5
    1 review

How Colombus must have felt setting foot in the new world could not possibly have even matched my ecstasy at hearing that La Colombe opened in DC (pun intended). Washington is inexplicably barren of coffee shops and bakeries for a town populated by those with excessive disposable funds and self proclaimed worldliness and taste. La Colombe serves straight up coffee: ...

    Peregrine Espresso

    4
    1 review

Peregrine Espresso specializes in pour over, high-end coffee. It's located in the Eastern Market corridor. It legitimately serves some of the best coffee in DC and is a breath of fresh air in a city dominated by Starbucks. I wish this Peregrine had more food options and that the location had a more historic character.

    Big Bear Cafe

Big Bear Cafe is consistently rated as one of the best coffee shops in DC. It sits in an out of the way corner of Bloomgindale but is almost always busy with locals meeting friends or working on their laptops. This is the kind of place that, if you're a traveler, it feels like a wonderful secret that you've just ...

Just an average deli. I felt it to be a lot like Panera except with flatbreads. Their selection of sandwiches was much more to my liking than Panera. The spicy mustard is SPICY! The potato chips are very salty. I'll try fresh veggies next time.
