    Blue Note Jazz Club

0.17 mi from Washington Square Park
    9 reviews

One of my absolute favorite venues. This is a very intimate setting, great experience for any jazz artist. Here is the deal, you buy a ticket to a show but it is General admission seating. Get to the venue by 8pm for the late show (1030p) and you'll stand in line to get on to the list for seats, best ...

Great place to go if you're looking for arthouse, off-beat or classic films. The best is when they have the director or another special guest there for the talk-back afterwards.

Sullivan Street Tea & Spice Company

0.19 mi from Washington Square Park
    2 reviews

Charming little tea and spice shop in the West Village. Has a nicely curated selection of high quality spices -- multiple varieties of vanilla bean, salt, pepper, chili, etc. A great place to pick and choose a gift selection or pick up a pre-packed set. The tea selection is also excellent. Keep your eye open for the ghost peppers in ...

I didn't go here for the bar, I went for the show in the Gallery (Yum's the Word, a brilliant, monthly storytelling show - they've got folks from the Moth, HBO and a whole bunch of other places). I really like the Gallery - it's intimate without being crowded, with a great little stage. The food was pretty decent as ...

    Comedy Cellar

0.17 mi from Washington Square Park
    6 reviews

Best comedy club I have ever been to. The cover is usually pretty cheap (around $10) and there is a drink requirement but they are very reasonable. The pubs and clubs around are also fairly cheap (one of them had $1 beers when I was there).

What a great spot! Their happy hour is perfect, $20 bottles?! sign me up. The food is equally as enticing as their fully loaded wine lists.

    GMT Tavern

0.22 mi from Washington Square Park
    2 reviews

Greenwich Village has a nice selection of taverns. GMT rightfully claims it's spot on the list. It's key attributes? Great selection of beers on tap, delicious apps to share, and a terrific location to spend a nice fall or spring afternoon in the outdoor seating section among the kinetic energy in the streets of Green Village.

Citarella - Avenue of the Americas

0.24 mi from Washington Square Park

A great supermarket in greenwich village. Their fresh baked breads/pastries, meats and cheeses are excellent. They also have amazing homemade pasta sauces and tapenades. Their produce is extremely fresh, affordable and doesn't spoil easily. The con of this place is some boxed items can be overpriced.

As an artsy kid growing up just outside of New York City I was and still am a huge Broadway fan! And yes, I love musical theater! Believe me I know it's not for everyone but if you are in NYC you should really give the theater a go if you are even the slightest bit inclined.

Union Square is a great park that has a lively atmosphere. There's always people chilling here relaxing, and usually there's break dancers, bmx kids, and skaters practicing. It's a great place to people watch especially on a warm night.

One of the more attractive neighborhoods in the city. What's not to like about Washington Square Park and mom and pop retail. The proximity to NYU makes things a bit crowded and pulls them down market a but this is a must see in the city.

    Lower East Side Tenement Museum

An absolute must see that many visitors don't get to. The museum is a great way to discover New York's immigrant history and learn about the Lower East Side. This isn't a traditional museum but a series of guided activities / tours. Normally I hate guided museum visits but the tours at the Tenement Museum are succinct, entertaining and informative. ...

    Strand Book Store

0.38 mi from Washington Square Park
    38 reviews

A New York institution, the Strand promises miles of books and delivers, on three floors and every subject imaginable. I love that it's independent, I love that it's a mix of used and new books. It's even somehow charmingly New York-y cynical that you have to check your bag at the door, and, hey, it makes for unencumbered browsing.

Once upon a time (early 1900s) this district was known for numerous slaughter houses and various cuts of meat.
