We wandered into this park near NYU, and found a punk rock band playing for passers-by. I really liked strolling through this park. It was active and vibrant, and it is a landmark in the Manhattan neighborhood of Greenwich Village, as well as a meeting place and center for cultural activity.

Park is always packed when it's nice out. Newly renovated, it's in great condition. Usually good for at least one laugh. Great for people watching. Be on the lookout for Joe Mangrum's sand art, a dude in an outrageous headdress and the nighttime jedi light saber battles!

I love all the parks in New York, but Washington Square evokes a different time - Greenwich Village is such an iconic place. I love the big fountain in the summer when kids are splashing in it. The arch is beautiful - you can look through it right up fifth avenue. and there are always plenty of street performers there.Recommended for:Family Travelers

Apparently Washington Square Park used to be dangerous. It's not anymore, to say the least...and if anything has become too user friendly. It's the perfect warm weather hang out spot, however. Why? Because its a great combination of rest and activity, that's why. Want to do something? Great - chess, music, dancing abound (as do random tennis players, for some reason). Want to chill? Great - benches, grassy spots, etc. abound that are great for people watching. Enjoy.

very nice park at the end of 5th avenue. I always seem to end up here, when I visit New York. The arch is magnificent and a real landmark in New York. I saw some movies being shot here, I got especially close when a episode of the series Blue Bloods was filmed here, even shook the hand of Tom Selleck :-). Great place to people watch, also.

One of my favorite parks in NYC and a favorite spot in Greenwich Village. Go on a beautiful day, hang out near the Washington Square Arch and be immersed in the pockets of jam bands and local entertainers. To me, Washington Square Park is the hub of everywhere you need to go. After spending time in the park, wander east through St. Marks (known for its punk-rock edge), head west towards Bleecker and McDougal (known for its bohemian flavor) or walk south towards Soho/ Little Italy/ Chinatown for some serious shopping.

I enjoy coming to Washington Square Park for a casual stroll in a weekend afternoon. It's also very relaxing to just sit somewhere in the park and get lost in a good book. This is also a wonderful place where little surprises may be found from time to time.
