Water World should not be confused with Elitch Gardens' water park. Both are fantastic places to cool off on a hot day but Water World is a bit bigger and more popular.

Loved this place as a kid. Not sure how it rates against the California and Florida parks, but you can't lose as a place to take kids on a hot summer afternoon.

Summer trips to Water World are the next best thing to Disney for kids growing up in Colorado. A mere 15 minutes north of Denver, this water park that still smacks of summer in the 80s has it all: thrilling slides, a wave pool, lazy river, playground and campy adventure rides. As an adult who was wary of revisiting the magical world of my childhood, I can attest that this water park's high fun factor is accessible to all ages. My favorite rides (still) include the Turbo Racer (race friends and family to the bottom) and the Lost River of the Pharaohs (Disney's Indiana Jones ride on a budget). Come prepared with picnic food and beverages (alcohol not permitted) and plan to spend a full day here. Remember to save your ticket stub in case the unpredictable Colorado weather dumps unwanted water on your day; if the park's rides are closed for longer than an hour, you can receive a rain check for a full-day or half-day ticket.

Water World is a favorite destination for our family, and it was so much fun to visit with our Mile High Mamas friends this summer!

I have been quite impressed with the variation of the adventure we experience from year to year – and I’m not just referring to the fabulous upgrades the park has undergone. With each passing year, our children reach new heights (quite literally) of independence and confidence in the water, leading us to novel discoveries and basically, a whole new [Water] World. This year, Si officially reached the 48’ mark – an enormous milestone in the life of a young boy – giving him the freedom to ride some serious thrillers, which he politely passed on (for now anyway), but lets keep that quiet as he works on his inner courage…to his credit, he did ride the Voyage to the Center of the Earth TWICE – happily!

Noelle’s raft ride experience didn’t go quite as well, ha. Bravery, however, was not so much her issue as was the dilemma of taking a break from the fun to use the potty. Ok, so accidents happen, especially in the lives of four-year-olds, but the mess is generally contained to their own little bodies and not shared with everyone on the raft – yikes!

So, thank you Water World for chlorinated water, thank you for hosting the Mile High Mamas and thank you for sticks by which we measure our growth, our children’s development, our inner courage…a mile marker for years gone by filled with sweet memories at a water park which has become so much more to us than simply an epic place to play.

Looking to quench your thrill-seeking thirst? You can literally accomplish your desire at Water World in Denver, Colorado. This attraction boasts record-breaking water slides. Take a break from the heights, and cruise on the Lazy River. When you are ready for more action, see how long who can take The Wave or The Revolution. The kids can get their share of water thrills at Calypso Cove and Wally World. Water World is not satisfied with the tallest slides in the area. The Mile High Flyer will take the water park up a notch as the state’s lone magnetic water coaster: coming in 2012.
