Wawel is a really grand, but unusual castle. It has incredible architecture. The Dragon's Den is the most intriguing and unique experience in the castle and definitely worth going into.

Wawel Castle is a Royal Palace that also houses the state art collection, you can chose whether to check out the art or just look around his historic building.
Wawel Hill where the castle sits has been the site of some kind of Royal residence since the late C900 so this is an essential stop for anyone interested in history and Polish culture in general. The castle is also a lovely building and well worth a causal wander if history is not your thing.

Unfortunately, due to centuries of oppression and occupation, the grandeur of ancient Poland is often forgotten. During the 17th century the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth was one of the largest states in the world. A Polish general helped break the Ottoman siege of Vienna.
Wawel Castle is a symbol of Poland's past greatness. The palace and nearby cathedral were the home and resting place of Polish Kings. Thus, Wawel is a must see attraction.

This was one of those unexpected finds. We were on a sidetrack due to political stuff, and ended up with extra time in Krakow. The castle is one of a kind. Everything from the gates to the grounds. It's hard to explain, but Eastern European castles are different. They are more of a community place that a palace for a single monarch family.Recommended for:Family Travelers

Wawel Castle has beautiful grounds and beautiful views of Krakow. I'm sad that due to a lack of time I have yet to fully explore the castle. It's on my 'must do' list for my next visit.

Wawel is very awesome and picturesque castle located in the heart of Cracow City and is accessible both to public and private transport. There are lots of good hotels nearby, one of them is Hotel Novotel which is a very traveller-friendly hotel. At the back of the castle is a big park which is a very good place to take a walk to and take a boat ride along the canal.
