Walking into the Wedgewood Hotel is the definition of a boutique luxury hotel --a doorman is waiting to greet you and the lobby is resplendently decorated with antique furniture, classic art pieces, and fresh flowers.
However, I was less in love with the rooms. While impeccably clean and comfortable, the pinky-biege hues and floral chairs and wallpaper look like something my grandmother would pick out. At least the amenities are of this era with a Nespresso maker, big flat screen TV, and spa products in the bathroom.
While the aesthetics of the room are subjective, the service is not -- it's absolutely perfect! I overheard other guests raving about the service (and cuisine) in the Bacchus restaurant too.
The room rates are quite high - even by Vancouver standards - but at least they include breakfast and wifi.Recommended for:

Boutique hotels seem to be trendy these days, and in my opinion there are many places that shouldn’t be labeling themselves as such (it takes more than just a small property to be boutique). The Wedgewood, however, is a true European boutique hotel not just in size but in décor. Over the years, the building has become a kind of museum space for the owner’s collection of artifacts. Just sitting in the lobby, there’s so much to admire, like chess-piece bookends and artwork depicting a fox hunt. It’s the kind of place where you’d expect an old man to appear from behind a chair, with a cigar in one hand, and a book in the other.
I wasn’t a big fan of the rooms, however, and thought they felt more like a B&B than a luxury hotel. They have an old-world charm that would be appreciated by the right person (maybe an older demographic). It’s just a little too homey for me, and I prefer the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver where the rooms and furnishing don’t feel as aged.
However, there’s an exceptional level of service and an intimate feel to this hotel that’s a one-of-a-kind in Vancouver. It explains why many guests have been returning to the Wedgewood since it first opened.Recommended for:

Walking into the Wedgewood Hotel’s lobby is a bit like walking into a museum. The boutique hotel has a European styling and the lobby has several well-maintained antique pieces that make sitting by the fireplace feel more like an old countess’ living-room. The rooms, each with a balcony, have art from the family collection, though not all of it antique. Not without modern comforts, all of the rooms have the standard appointments including complimentary wifi but the most-requested room class is the Deluxe Executive room which has a 2-person soaker tub in the sleeping area.
Personally, if I had to choose between good decor and service, I’d always choose good service. Luckily, the Wedgewood has both. The staff seems to have been trained well and upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and even after being helped, a few minutes later, a busy valet asked if he could help and welcomed us to the hotel. There’s even 24-hour room service as staff have access to the restaurant’s kitchen to deliver on a lighter late-night menu items.
A converted rooming-house, the hotel pulls off comfort easily. There is even a restaurant, spa, and fitness area all run as part of the family business. I’m told that in about a month, the gym will be tripled in size and an extra room will be added to the spa, bringing the on-site amenity package up to levels similar to or better than a lot of top-end hotels, making this boutique hotel a real competitor.Recommended for:
