    Te Papa Tongarewa

    4.5
    18 reviews

Te Papa (Wellington Museum) is one cool museum. Filled with marine and biology exhibits, interactive rooms like a live movable map, and an earthquake simulator, it's the perfect place for an afternoon indoors. Add the Middle Earth vibe and Lord of the Rings/Hobbit memorabilia, and how can you get any cooler? Oh yeah, it's free.

    Waterfront Walkway

I was only in Wellington for a short stay but it quickly became one of my favorite cities. It is culture and laid back and also incredibly beautiful! On the water front with rocky hills all around. It's nice to take a walk down by the water and look back at the city as it rises into the hills.

In a city that prides itself on hip urban culture - Cuba Street is ground zero. Hipster cafe's dot the street amongst cool clothing shops and enough record stores to push-start a radio station. Be sure to check out the bizarre-o water sculpture that does little other than get unsuspecting passers by wet...

A great hiking spot offering beautiful 360 degree views of the city and bay. They also filmed some scenes from Lord of the Rings here, which the nerd in me loves.

How many nature sanctuaries have you visited that have a 500 year plan? Their goal is to recreate the bird life and fauna that originally existed in New Zealand. . . before mammals arrived. The only original mammal on New Zealand was the New Zealand bat.

Lovely seaside suburb, just around the corner from the airport. Italian-kiwi families still keep fishing boats in the bay, and have an annual blessing of the fishermen done by St Francis de Sales parish.
