If you have reservation at this hotel between Jan-April 2014, Run, do not walk to your travel agent and get rebooked somewhere else! We made reservation at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa in June of 2013 for the Xmas holiday (12/26-1/3/14) 3 rooms, taking our whole family, at a reputable travel agency's recommendation, and I recommended it to my husband who intended to give this trip to us as a Xmas gift. $12,000 had to be paid in full within 2 weeks. Our travel agent called them personally to ask a # of questions and make the reservation. This was a tough year for us and we so looked forward to this vacation for 6 months. We saved for a number of yrs as it is extremely expensive to go to Hawaii, but worth it with the promise of paradise, relaxation, warm weather, etc. We could not wait. After 1.5 days of travel we arrived at The Westin Maui R&S. We checked in, got our rooms, as soon as I got in the room, I laid down and that is when the hell began. Pounding, sawing, drilling, construction elevators, workers yelling, etc. amplified as they put us in rooms above 6 full floors of total reconstruction. This whole side of the hotel was being renovated. And this was not intermittent noise, it was constant, starting at 6:15AM every morning, straight up through your pillow and went till 6:00pm every single day, even on New Year's Day. It was hell on earth. The Westin mgmt made no effort to notify us of this complete renovation that would take place during the time of our reservation, they had 6 months, they had both our emails, our travel agents contact info, our cells phones, they spoke to our agent personally, she went back and checked the online travel industry site the day we made the reservation, no warning of reconstruction-they purposely kept this a secret and they gladly took our payment in full. We felt so violated that they took our hard earned vacation dollars, and our valuable vacation time, and somehow justified a business revenue strategy to put their valued customers in rooms right on top of it and think this was acceptable, with no notification allowing us some other options, just so they would not lose revenue during this total hotel renovation. Shame on you The Westin mgmt. This was a greed move and purely your decision. You had the power to do the right thing by us and other guests, you sold us out. I travel a lot and this was the worst construction situation I have ever been exposed to, on vacation no less. This whole side of the hotel should be shut down during this reconstruction-6 full floors of rooms below you all at one time being pounded on. We could never sleep in, take a nap, even just have quiet time in the room was impossible and you could not escape it on the balcony, at the pool, in the hallways (it echoed even louder). It was so stressful, you had to leave the hotel to get away from it. So we complained. The people at the front desk just made sour faces, put their hands up, like they were the victims, and immediately lobbed you to a manager, you had to wait 20+ minutes for. They had our money, we had no leverage, they knew they had us over a barrel. They acted like well you are here now so just deal with it. This was nothing short of entrapment. They wait till you are there, hotels are sold out, they have your money, you are now stuck I their web. They offered us a $240 refund ($30 a day resort fee back) on a $12,000 bill.....really? .0002%. I laughed at her and invited her to come sit in my room for 15 minutes as they obviously do not know how loud and constant this construction noise was. Of course they declined. Ignorance is bliss. Or maybe they were fully aware of how bad it really was and did not want to be forced to acknowledge it. So we escalated this. $240 refund was insulting at best. They could not move us as the hotel was sold out and refused to give us a refund so we could try to find another hotel. So they forced us to fight for multiple days to get our money back, not to mention the sheer frustration we endured having to justify day after day why we deserved a refund. They argued that the noise did not start till 8 as the workers had rules about early morning noise. Reality, it started at 6:15 am every morning. No one was governing these workers either adding insult to injury and I reported it every morning at the front desk, and experienced no change during our entire stay. Having to fight this battle for 3-4 days also destroyed our moods for the day. Sheer frustration ensued after each call, on top of the daily noise, it was like living in hell for 9 days. Our only happiness was when we left the hotel. So after going through 2 more levels of management, we managed to get a little more out of them, no where near what we should have gotten which was a full refund. We were just exhausted and were trying to selvage what we could out of the remainder of the vacation. I will never stay at a Westin again based on this experience. They don't value their customers- or respect our vacation dollars and sacred vacation time hoping to create good memories, not sheer misery. They should have paid us $12k to stay there and endure this. Get your money back, rebook at another hotel as they are far from done with this renovation, good luck!

Went to the Westin to use a gift certificate (less than a year old) for dinner Christmas night. Both resturants had changed names and only one would take the gift certificate-Relish. Service was slow and they weren't even busy. Not a lot of selection. Live music was a little loud for trying to hold a conversation. Waitress was nice and gave us free dessert. We realized it was the dessert selection from the special holiday meal that probably nobody ordered! They offer Kaamaina discount but would not give us the remainder value of our gift card. Wasted half of our gift certificate. Food was okay but not worth the price. Coincidence or not ...my husband was up all night with a sick belly.

Perfect location right at Kaanapali Beach. The resort grounds are beautiful and there are koi ponds and flamingos right when you enter the lobby. Great pool area for those traveling with families. The rooms can be on the small side, but get an ocean view room and you won't mind.

This hotel is great for families!
It has 5 pools and big fancy waterslides to go with it!
It is on Kaanapali Beach BUT that part of Kaanapali is not known for fabulous beaches.
The beach has eroded away so the hotel is almost at the water line.
Still 5 minute drive to Lahaina Town.
The rooms are comfortable and modern.
It is also renovated every couple of years so it is always in good shape.
If you want to be close to all of the action this would be a great choice.

When I'm daydreaming and building my castle in the sky of where I'd like to live someday, that castle is now this resort. After being whisked away for the weekend by Michael W. to Ka'anapali to live out two days as a lady of leisure in the lap of luxury, I couldn't imagine a better place to vacation than the Westin.
Even in the late evening at check-in, the lobby was stunning. Elegant pillars and arches overlooked a waterfall and a huge pool area with flamingos! Once we made it to our room, I peeked out of the balcony door and realized we were upgraded to ocean view, gorgeous!
We made some cocktails and explored the property, which included restaurants, bars, pool bars, 24 hour workout center with group fitness classes, starbucks, shops, tons of pools, slides...
The room was great, not the most updated or elegant I've stayed in BUT the bed was amazing, I wanted to pack it up and take it home. Double-headed shower was the BEST. I will definitely be looking for one to install at home. Mini fridge was perfect for keeping my alcohol cold for poolside enjoyment (hey, those pool bar drinks are expensive! I have a high tolerance and would have gone broke trying to get a good buzz buying those drinks! :P)
I didn't want to leave. The staff was great, the valet guys were really helpful and I couldn't have asked for a better experience...except staying longer! I want to live here!Recommended for:Luxury Travelers

Great hotel and even better location. Right on Ka'anapali beach you can't go wrong. The pool, hot tubs and slide are great and the dining is excellent. I also like this location on the Island better than Wailea - you can get to many great beaches on this side of the Island.

I love this hotel, partially because it has the best luau on Maui. Instead of a typical buffet, the luau features table service and better food than a typical luau. There's also a Samoan fire dancer in the Polynesian luau. The beds are "heavenly" as advertised by Westin, and the service is stellar. The indoor pool features a waterfall that's great for a neck and shoulder massage.
Dining options at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa include a restaurant and a bar/lounge. Room service is available 24 hours a day. Recreational amenities include an outdoor pool, a children's pool, a health club, a spa tub, and a sauna. The property's full service health spa has massage/treatment
There are 759 guestrooms at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa. Beds come with pillowtop mattresses, signature bedding, and premium bedding. Refrigerators and coffee/tea makers are offered. Bathrooms feature shower/tub combinations, designer toiletries, bathrobes, and hair dryers.
