Our arrival at the Westin was early in the day so it was pretty quiet in the lobby, and the staff was welcoming and very friendly. I immediately noticed the refreshing complimentary ice tea in the entrance to the lobby - thirsty girl because of the humidity! The entrance was pretty grand, with high ceilings, polished marble tile and many staff members available to assist us at the check in desk. It seemed like this resort’s theme was high, vaulted ceilings throughout. We cruised by one of the restaurants on the way to the room, and then the open-air indoor/outdoor bar on the first floor. As we entered the room, the blue vaulted ceiling stood out almost as much as the beautiful ocean-front view! All of the in-room amenities were definitely a plus too. I especially liked the marble topped furniture, polished tile floor, and ultra clean bathroom!

Sometimes bigger is better, or in the case of the Westin Resort and Spa in Cancun...taller. The room we checked out had an arched ceiling that crested at about fifteen, maybe twenty feet. Of course, this isn't livable space but it does go along way towards providing a sense that you are staying somewhere other than a hotel. If you do happen to venture outside of your room you can have a swim in one of the pools or maybe indulge in a massage. The girls in the spa area were especially nice even offering a free twenty minute session! This all happened over the Memorial Day weekend (U.S) and the spa area was empty, so I'm guessing that any time of year will be crowd free. The Westin does offer all-inclusive packages in addition to pay as you go, I'm still undecided over which offers a better value but it's nice to have the choice.

Ok, not a real Westin property for sure...rooms are OK...Use the Royal Beach Club...a couple bucks extra gets you breakfast and hors-d'oeuvres. Far from downtown which is what I liked...good for sleeping on beach...service is less than great and food options are slim... But it was a good weekend escape...Go to Ritz for luxury, to "Le Blanc" for all inclusive luxury or go to Le Meriden for better service...they're opening a new property soon...
