There’s a lot of great things about this hotel. You get two view options: the city or the bay. There’s also the crazy giant green chandelier thingies that, combined with the up and down movement of the elevators, make the lobby feel like somebody’s quirky idea of what the “future” would look like. Yeah, this hotel has been around since probably the 70’s or 80’s and it kinda feels like it, even though it’s been updated fairly recently. I guess the thing is that it’s just not a hip hotel. It feels kinda businessy, which is fine, but I like things a little spicier. Also, the pool is tiny! But the location is great if you need to be by the trolley, the train station of the jail (yikes!).Recommended for:Business Travelers

I was down in SD for a cousin trip and to meet up with long lost friends.
We drove down and checked in and promptly went to the hotel bar. At which point was a nice jump off for our weekend of drinking in the Gaslamp. The elevator I hear was nice. I would have been able to discern that for myself if the alcohol was not playing with my sense of everything. Don’t worry, I invited the alcohol in. The room was clean, the bathroom was clean, the sheets were clean. I think I was the dirtiest thing there. I took a shower and I still was the dirtiest thing in there. Apparently it takes a little more to wipe clean the soul.
I know I’ve seen this hotel before the last couple times I’ve been in the area. And I’ve always wondered what it was like to stay here. Actually I’m kind of like a kid like that and wonder such things about everywhere so I guess that should not come as any surprise.
It’s always nice to come back home…
