Willard's Hotel is one of the most famous places of lodging in the United States. Since the creation of the city from the Virginia Wilderness, politicians and notables have been staying here. My favorite story is that of Ulysses S. Grant, who first came here when he was promoted to Lieutenant General. No one knew who he was until he signed the hotel register. When he came to dinner that night, he got a standing ovation.Recommended for:

This is, perhaps, the most storied hotel in Washington. It's only a block or two from the White House. Every U.S. President since the 1850's has been a guest or visitor there. The lobby is just beautiful. You almost feel as though you are carried back in time.
When I was there, afternoon tea was being served. It felt quite a bit like high tea in London, though it is served earlier than a high tea would be. Among the visitors were a group of ladies celebrating a baby shower, and obviously having a great time.
The guest rooms, and the more elaborate suites, have furnishings that suit the hotel's past.Recommended for:

President Grant invented the term "lobbyist" here to describe the political wranglers hanging out in the hotel's front room. These days the action has moved to the gilded Round Robin bar (beside the lobby). Pop in to see if any big-wigs are clinking glasses and cutting deals.

The Willard InterContinental hotel is probably one of the best hotels in Washington, DC. With a location not far from the White House, it impossible not to rub elbows with the Washington elite!
From the spa to the private dining rooms it spells class in every way. The staff is great! Regardless the event they always take great care and attention to detail with every request.

Apart from being a hotel with a great history, the Willard is in a wonderful location. It has a straight on view right down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol. In the next block or two, you can watch kids playing roller hockey in front of the White House, or the street fairs that sometimes occupy the Avenue on weekends.
It's also walking distance to several live theatre venues. The Occidental Grill, with its collection of political and celebrity photos, is right there. But personally, I'd head to the Old Ebbitt Grill on 15th Street.Recommended for:
