Hey William, I stayed in the city center and it was fine...the zona rosa in Medellin is a bit over the top to my taste, but you will be able to walk to lots of bars, etc. I haven't stayed in Envigado, but it's true that the metro is super convenient and quick, till it stops running. Last tip is that taxis are cheap and honest, so don't let the 11pm metro curfew cramp your style too much.

William I guess a lot depends on what you plan on doing in Medellin. If you want to be in the hipper district with an active nightlife I would recommend looking for a place in El Pueblo or La Zona Rosa. If you want something that is more economical you can look at places in the city center. Medellin is a pretty safe city so you shouldn't have any problems with renting a place in the city center. If you don't mind being a bit further out then I would recommend looking at Envigado. It is a charming town, and easily accessible from Medellin.
