"America's Best Fried Chicken"
Fried chicken is seriously my weakness, so I was more than excited to try Willie Mae's. A trip to the south would not be complete without trying a local fried BIRD.
Willie Mae's fried chicken's crust is straight up super flaky and the chicken inside was extremely juicy and moist. I did think that the batter was a tad bit salty, and had some sort of expectation that it was going to be a little sweet (not sweet at all).
This fried chicken ---- you absolutely have to eat it in one sitting. Left overs do not taste as good and the batter soaks up all the grease, making it a soggy and sad (still delicious doe!).
To counterbalance the grease overload, we also ordered some rice & beans (very good!), grilled chicken salad (standard good), mac & cheese, mashed potatoes.
Service was very friendly and there is a long line that forms outside of the restaurant.
You are not allowed to stand in the doorway because it's nicely air conditioned inside, you must wait in the humid weather with the other fried chicken fiends.
I think one really cool thing to note about Tremé is that it's the oldest African American neighborhood in the US, very historic. It's where we stayed in NOLA, and were pleasantly surprised to see how friendly the locals were.
It's where Louis Armstrong is from, word UP.Recommended for:

Willie Mae's had some very impressive soul food. My family and I had to wait nearly an hour in line to get in due to the limited seating, but it was worth it. The sweet potato fries and fried chicken was delicious. The next time I come back to NOLA, I anticipate hitting up Willie Mae's again.Recommended for:
