This is a great place to go if you want to enjoy a day "in town" . Take a carriage ride, go on a ghost tour, enjoy 5 star restaurants. Great nightlife. And do not forget to visit the Battleship. Museums, gardens and more!

The city of Wilmington suffers from urban sprawl but the waterfront is nice. Several nice restaurants and pubs. Take the ferry over and check out quaint Kure Beach and Carolina beach on the way for a nice day-trip.

Walk along the boardwalk in downtown Wilmington-a really fun way to spend an afternoon. You can visit a lot of little shops and take a boat ride exploring the river in the city center area.

I visited here briefly some years ago, but have always meant to go back. It is a beautiful coastal city with a lot of history and terrific restaurants.

I loved the old 1800's style shops along Water Street. The horse drawn trolley car tour offered many historical facts too.

I have been there several times. I loved the battleship and the tour was great. Especially with my dad who served aboard the USS Missouri. He really enjoyed showing us how they lived while on the battleship. It is a great show and very realistic.

Stopped over on a Civil War driving tour, found the Bentonville Battleground. Ate great food, stayed in a wonderful old B&B. The south at its best.

Description

With the world's second largest downtown historic district (only Rome, Italy tops it), Wilmington, North Carolina is one of the South's unsung vacation destinations. On the coast with a historic battleship, manor homes open for touring and a pedestrian-friendly shopping and dining area, Wilmington is quickly moving its way up the tourist radar. Its Cape Fear Serpentarium is a one-of-a-kind indoor zoo dedicated to all things slithery and crawly, where a five-skull and crossbones rating system points out which snakes could kill you the fastest.
