This is the only full-service hotel downtown on the waterfront. It’s located is a commercial plaza, where I used to have an office. Built in the Golden Era (1970s) then it catered mainly to business travelers. This is still true but both its short-term and longer, leisure business has increased. Cruise ship passengers pre and post stay here, and in the winter, the ships’ entertainers. For Carnival, the waterfront rooms are booked months in advance, for from them, one has a superb view of the parades and of dawn’s early “jump-up.” These generous rooms have been nicely renovated with contemporary furnishings and large flat-screen TVs, etc. Although the standard rooms are not bad, the views don’t cut it, yet their rates are tempting.
The pool area, courtyard bar, and Bali-style beds near the putt-putt greens, are looking good. The new, professional chef instilled me with confidence. A state-sider, Cheryl Pogan has contemporized the menu. Barbecues and theme nights with entertainment are planned for the alfresco courtyard. Do it!Recommended for:Business Travelers
