Visit the museum and displays of the First Flight of Aviation. Yes, this is where the Wright Brothers started aviation. National Park small admission charge.

Aviation history is displayed in the museum area with presentations by the National Park Service. A replica of the Wright Flyer is on display and a visit to the buliding where the brothers lived and worked is a short walk after the presentation. Markers show the length of each flight made at this location.

The Wright Brothers National Memorial is run by the National Park Service and is dedicated to Wilbur and Orville Wright who made the first successful powered air flight. They accomplished this on December 17th, 1903.

The memorial is a great place for history and aviation buffs. The program can be a little long but with lots of interesting information. Unfortunately, kids will get bored and antsy. The climb to the memorial can be a little arduous depending on the route you take up the hill.

Nice memorial, and there is a small museum as well. Don't you just love the names down here? Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Jockey's Ridge. It's a very cool place to go.

Saw this one on the Outer Banks trip with the boys also. Great place to visit, just watch for the cactus along the pathway in the field.

Description

The course of world history changed at the site of the Wright Brothers National Memorial when two young men successfully achieved the first airplane flights in a “flying machine.” An interactive life-sized sculpture of Wilbur and Orville Wright’s 1903 flyer helps visitors imagine the brothers’ amazing feat. A visitor’s center also includes a glider the brothers built in 1902, an engine block from ... read more
the 1903 flyer and a reproduction of wind tunnel. Educational activities include movies and demonstrations on how to build paper airplanes. The grounds also house reconstructions of the brother’s living quarters during their flight experiments and the hanger that stored the 1903 flyer.
